First Debate

So who won the battle of words and wits?

-

The first debate between Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump drew a lot of viewers this week—and a lot of comments from the media on TV and in print and the public on Facebook and other such sites.

A lot of comment.

Some say Clinton won the debate by remaining poised and in control. She was lauded for being prepared, though critics say she sounded “scripted.”

Trump was criticized for “winging it” and being a bit too thin-skinned. But supporters say he was the same in debate as he is at campaign events and that his candor and lack of political polish is just what this country needs.

We want to know what you think. Who made a better impression and “won” the debate? Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton?

Last Week: The Fair

Last week’s question was the Four States Fair and Rodeo. What could make the fair better next year? Tell us what would make your fair-going experience even better.

I would like to see the antique auto show returned to the fair. I enjoyed looking at the beautiful old cars and talking with their owners. I would also like to see the agricultural products show returned. It was fun to enter my pecans every year and to see the fruits and vegetables grown by other local gardeners.—J. The open free stage used to have some popular acts—John Conlee, Rex Allen Jr., T. Graham Brown, Exile, Vince Vance, Stamps Quartet, and others. This attracted a few hundred people, many of whom likely ate and walked around looking at stuff. New Boston’s festival still has acts like these and they are free. —B.J., Texarkana, Texas

It’s too small for the size town we have, the vendors have to pay too much to set up, so they have to charge more to make a profit. They don’t keep the web page current (and) some people were unaware of when they closed and the last day they closed early. If they want to make improvements, go to the fair in Shreveport. It is so much better. I save my money and take my family to it.

We really missed the dollar ride day. We just skipped the rides altogether this year. I guess in the end we saved money and my kids really didn’t miss the rides anyways, but for larger families it’s the only way they can afford to take their kids.

Curious to read comments—really enjoy the fair. When we have a complaint—we should offer a solution!

Need more rides for smaller children. I took my two children for the first time this year and they only had 3 rides they could go on.
