Forced to play from behind, AHS falls to Lake Hamilton

- By Josh Richert Sports Editor

Arkansas High was forced to play from behind in the second half, and Lake Hamilton played ball control to hand the Razorbacks their second straight loss in 6A-West play.

The Wolves rushed for 344 yards, built a three-score lead in the third quarter and thwarted a fourth-quarter rally by the Razorbacks with their third interception during a 34-17 win over AHS Friday at Razorback Stadium.

Arkansas High cut its deficit to 10 points on Tyler Braswell’s 19-yard strike to Irijah Price with 6:53 left in the game. The Hog defense stopped a fourthdown attempt by the Wolves, who were

1 of 3 on fourth-down tries. But six plays into the ensuing Arkansas High drive, Ramar Easter came up with the third pick at his own 32 and returned it to the AHS 36 to set up a-yard plunge by Fay Haywood.

Haywood threw one score and rushed for two others—both in the fourth quarter—for the Wolves (3-2, 2-0). Jack Johnson raced 83 yards on a touchdown midway through the third quarter and finished with 120 yards on five carries, and Jonathan Buss had 120 yards on 28 carries.

Braswell threw one score and 220 yards on 21-of-37 passing with two interceptions. Price had 13 catches for 128 yards, and Jordan Hall added a rushing TD and 78 yards on 17 totes. Braswell also kicked a field goal to open the scoring after a Razorback

takeaway.

The Razorbacks forced a turnover on the Wolves’ first drive, DeJordan Mask coming up with the fumble recovery at the AHS 46 on the second play of the game.

The field position and Mask pounding the ball got Arkansas High to a goal-to-go, and Braswell booted a 27-yard field goal with 9:18 left in the first.

Lake Hamilton answered with a time-consuming, 13-play campaign that covered 74 yards and ate up 6:16 off the clock. Buss had seven carries for 31 yards during the drive.

Haywood tossed a fade route to Jacob Nichols at the right pylon for the 18-yard score with 2:51 left in the first.

The Wolves managed just one first down the rest of the first half.

Arkansas High drove to the red zone but turned the ball over on downs in the final minute before intermission. The Razorbacks had 148 yards of total offense in the half, and Lake Hamilton had 118.
