Millwood announces weekend activities

The Millwood State Park program will host a variety of activities from Cypress Slough kayak tours to a sunset barge tour and a fool proof campfires, according to Sierra Karambella­s, park interprete­r.

The activities today include:

Cypress Slough kayak tour from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The minimum kayaking age is 6 and children under the age of 18 must be accompanie­d by an adult. Participan­ts ages 6-10 must ride tandem with an adult. Space is limited. Pre-register by calling in advance to the marina to reserve your boat at 870-898-5334.

Meet at the marina and the admission is adults-$9 and children ages 6-10 will be $5.

A second Cypress Slough kayak tour will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the same admission requiremen­ts.

A third Cypress Slough kayak tour will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday also with the same admission requiremen­ts.

A class on foolproof campfires will be 6:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The park interprete­r will demonstrat­e how to create a simple fire starting tool using inexpensiv­e and easy to obtain materials.

Meet at the marina parking for the free program.

The program “Halloween’s Creepy Crawly Critters” will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. The program will discuss bats and spiders. “We’ll craft a creepy crawly that you can take home,” said Karambella­s.

Meet at the day use area for the free program.

A Waterfowl Way Hike will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday. The walk is a 1 1/2 mile leisure walk with a park interprete­r. Meet at the trailhead for the free hike. Bring drinking water and wear sturdy shoes and insect repellent.

A Millwood Lake sunset tour will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Seating is limited to 10 passengers. Pre-register by calling the marina 870-898-5334 to reserve a seat.

A barge tour is also scheduled for 4-5:30 p.m Sunday. Call 870-898-5334 to reserve a seat.
