Liberty-Eylau at Princeton

- —JOSH RICHERT

KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m., Jackie

Hendrick Stadium.

LAST WEEK: The Leopards plowed Anna, 44-17, and the Panthers fell to North Lamar, 27-7. LAST YEAR:

Liberty-Eylau beat Princeton, 46-21. GAME FACTS:

The Leopards have won two in a row and 3 of 4, while Princeton has dropped its last two—to league-leading Paris and then NL. L-E is alone in second place in the District 7-4A, Division I standings and clinches a playoff spot with a win. Liberty-Eylau averages 34 points per game and allows 32 points, and the Panthers score an average of 27.6 and give up 26.6 points per game. Princeton freshman Brendon Strickland took over three games ago and has completed 29 of 64 passes for 378 yards, no touchdowns and four interceptions. Junior running back Alex FLores leads the Panther rushing attack with 117 carries for 599 yards and seven TDs.

COACHES COMMENTS: L-E’s Steve Wells—“I was kinda surprised North Lamar beat them last week; I consider that a little bit of an upset. They’re playing a young kid at quarterback and have another 9th grade kid playing on defense, so they’re young in some areas. The main thing we’ve got to focus on is get better at what we do and go down there and play another great football game, again.

“They’re a spread team. Against Paris they were mainly run, but last week they passed quite a bit. Defensively, they’re in a 4-2-5 look with a lot of man coverage and will bring just about every blitz that you can draw up on the

board. They’re trying to bring the pressure, and it’s one of those things where it’s feast or famine because when you pop it there’s no one to make the tackle.”

Princeton’s Lee Wilkins was unavailable for comment.
