Texas High smokes Woodrow Wilson in tennis tourney

LUCAS, Texas—Texas High defeated Woodrow Wilson, 10-0, in the first round of the Region II-5A team tennis tournament Thursday.

The Tigers advanced to the semifinals but fell to Frisco, 10-7.

FOOTBALL LEOPARDS ROUTS PRINCETON

The 9th grade L-E squad thumped Princeton, 44-8, at Harris Field.

Korbyn White and Shannon Roy both rushed for a trifecta of touchdowns. White with runs of 40, 72 and 56 yards, was not to be outdone as Roy scored on runs of 5, 42, and 60 yards.

L-E also converted its 2-point attempts with Josh Webster catching a pass from T.J. Templeton. Both Malik Watson and BeAndre Wafer caught passes from Roy for the conversion. Trey Revels also rushed one of the conversion­s.

Other standouts in L-E's impressive win included Jakeem Butler, Caron Eaton, Ethan Brooks, Jakobie Henderson and Harold Banks.

Liberty-Eylau fell to Princeton, 8-6, in a junior varsity game.

Kelston Joseph had the Leopards' lone touchdown, a 64-yard scamper. The Liberty-Eylau coaches praised the defensive play.

Liberty-Eylau is 5-4 overall and unblemishe­d in district play at 4-0. The Leopards last game will be at Quinlan Ford Thursday.

HORNETS TAKE 2 OF 3

HOOKS, Texas–Hooks junior varsity came out victorious over DeKalb, 34-20.

Mason Price had runs of 22-yards and 48-yards for the Hornets.

Kole Dooley scored on a 2-yard run and also connected with Daniel Espinoza on a 52-yard bomb for DeKalb.

Slate Ruth had a 65-yard run and also caught a 30-yard strike from Mason Vasquez. Ruth also found his way into the end zone for a third touchdown from 25-yards out. Ruth also had a fumble recovery before his day was done.

Klayton Kinney scored on a 3-yard run for DeKalb. Espinoza was perfect on the day for DeKalb on his point after attempts.

JJ Johnson also had an intercepti­on for the Hornets. Jack Dedner caused a fumble and also had a fumble recovery on the day.

Marc Reiter was perfect on his point after attempts.

The Hornets finished the season 4-4 overall.

Hooks blanked DeKalb in 7th grade action, 26-0.

David Johnson rushed for a triad of touchdowns on rushes of 18, 42, and 55 yards.

Kutter Smith joined the rushing party with his 10 yard run to go along with his two point conversion.

DeKalb edged the Hornets in the 8th grade game, 28-22.

AJ Burgin connected with Travis Daniels on a 4-yard touchdown pass for DeKalb.

Ty Olsen scored for DeKalb on a

5-yard run.

Burgin connected with Ramaj Vaughn on a 55-yard pitch and also with DeMarcus Ingram on a 28-yard bomb.

Tommy Rigsby led the Hooks rushing attack, scoring on rushes of 10 and 25 yards. Teammate Miguel Hererra also got in on the action, with his huge kick-off return of 60 yards. Kylie Bagby also completed the two-point play.

Jamar Vaughn and Olsen both converted two-point conversion­s for DeKalb.

NORTH HEIGHTS FELL TO MAGNOLIA, 36-26.

Hollis Mullins scored on 65-yard scamper and a 55-yard fake punt.

Graydon Martin threw two touchdown strikes to Eric Flowers for 50-yards and Josh Taylor for 60-yards.

Martin and Mullins also connected on the two-point conversion.

The Hogs are 3-4 overall and host El Dorado on Tuesday at Razorback Stadium. The game begins at 5:30 p.m.

PAUL PEWITT SPLITS WITH QUEEN CITY

QUEEN CITY, Texas—Paul Pewitt suffocates Queen City, 30-8. Kemya Hicks rushed for a touchdown and Ben Harris followed with the 2-point conversion.

Paul Pewitt defeated Queen City in 7th grade action, 28-22.

Arlander White scored two touchdowns on runs of 60 and 35 yards. Elijah Webster also got in on the action with his 15-yard score.

Queen City's 8th grade team edged Paul Pewitt, 36-20.

Terunte Neal ran for two touchdowns and also threw two. His rushes were from 25 and 20 yards out. Neal also connected with Josh Davis on a 45-yard strike and Joel Upchurch for a 25-yard bomb.

Vonte Francis also ran in from 20-yards out for the Bulldogs.

TEXAS MIDDLE SCHOOL TOPS HALLSVILLE

HALLSVILLE, Texas—Rian Cellers ran for a score and tossed another to lead Texas Middle School's 8th grade A team to a 20-6 win over Hallsville.

Cellers had a 35-yard scoring run, Caleb Arnold added a 2-yard plunge, and Cellers had a 26-yard strike to Lajontae Wrightner for a TD. Cellers also had a 2-point conversion run.

TMS's B team left Hallsville with a loss, 30-0.

Javawn Taylor reached the end zone twice, on a 48-yard dash and fumble recovery on defense. Russell Nance completed the 2-point conversion and also scored on a 10-yard run. Javon Smith completed the 2-point play.

Equan Cross got on the scoreboard with his 19-yard run and Zane Dodson's to Trey Lavender completed the 2-point conversion.

DRAGONS TOP PONIES

REDWATER, Texas—Redwater won both middle school games over visiting Hughes Springs.

The 8th grade Dragons defeated the Mustangs, 24-6, with Rolan Smith running for a pair of touchdowns, covering 20 and 60 yards. Logam Johnson added a 47-yard TD romp, and Preston Davis had a trio of 2-point conversion­s.

Rex Harrison also recovered a fumble for Redwater.

Malcolm Brown raced for two scores to help the 8th grade team win 38-24. Brown had scores of 32 and 44 yards, Anthony Giambroni returned a fumble 50 yards for a Dragon TD, and Jonathan Kethcum (23 yards) and Cole Turner (7 yards) also had touchdowns. Ketchum added three 2-pointers, Kaleb Narens had a 2-point conversion, and Evan Smith added a fumble recovery.

PG TOPS SPRING HILL

LONGVIEW, Texas–Pleasant Grove throttled Spring Hill, 42-14.

Zach Martin started the scoring onslaught with his 30-yard touchdown run.

Riley Birmingham got in on scoring action connecting with Brett Walker twice on a 31-yard pitch and a 51-yard heave.

Tristan Williams had a 5-yard run with Hunter O'Keefe following with the 2-point conversion. Williams also completed a 2-point conversion earlier in the quarter.

Birmingham wasn't finished scoring, reaching the end zone on a 1-yard run and Dillion Williams followed with the extra point.

Jon Wiggins reached the scorecard with his run from 1-yard out and Dillion Williams succeeded with the perfect extra point.

Pleasant Grove coaches praised the performanc­es of the defensive and offensive lines.

Pleasant Grove's 9th grade squad doubled-up on Spring Hill, 48-28.

Dylan Hopkins connected for two touchdown passes to Jackson Cobb and Antonio Watkins.

Bruce Garrett added two touchdown dashes. Jaime Lewis and Riley Durmon added rushing touchdowns as well.

Brayden Hlavinka had a big kickoff return for a touchdown for the Hawks.

The Pleasant Grove coaches praised the Hawks offensive line and the defense.

HUGHES SPRINGS SLIPS BY REDWATER

REDWATER, Texas–Hughes Springs outlasts Redwater in junior varsity action, 28-22.

Garrett Johnson scored twice for Redwater. His first scamper was a 5-yard run, followed by an 18-yard sprint to the end zone. Johnson also converted both of his 2-point attempts.

Jackson Feemster also scored on a 6-yard run.

Redwater's next game is at Jefferson.
