Redwater, Fouke girls in championsh­ip; L-K boys advance

REDWATER, Texas—Four teams out-distanced themselves from the field to play for first place.

The championsh­ip games were set Friday in the Redwater Invitation­al basketball tournament.

Redwater and Fouke tip off at 2:30 p.m. today in the new gym for the girls’ big gold trophy, while Taylor takes on Linden-Kildare for the boys’ championsh­ip at 4 p.m. in the new gym.

Redwater boys face Fouke at 2:30 p.m. for third place in the old gym, while Hooks and James Bowie play at 1 p.m. in the old gym for fifth place.

Taylor girls go up against Paul Pewitt for third place at 1 p.m. in the new gym, and Linden-Kildare plays Hooks at 11:30

a.m. in the new gym for the consolatio­n.

James Bowie girls take on Avery at 10 a.m. in the new gym.

Girls Championsh­ip bracket

FOUKE 58, PAUL PEWITT 51

Hannah Mauldin hit three treys and finished with 22 points as Fouke defeated Paul Pewitt.

Crysta Larey swished in 15 points, and teammate Laykin Smallwood had 12 for the Lady Panthers.

Ebbony Cobbins lit up the scoreboard for 22 points for the Lady Brahmas, and teammate Taeya Jackson added 15.

Fouke built a 37-21 halftime lead and never trailed.

REDWATER 53, TAYLOR 35

Three different Lady Dragons scored in double digits, and Redwater coasted past Taylor.

Ramzi Smith led all scorers with 15 points for the Dragons.

Redwater’s Karlee Carmony and Savannah Corbell scored 13 points each.

Lexi Nolle popped in 14 points for the Lady Tigers.

Consolatio­n bracket HOOKS 70, AVERY 60

Korey Brooks poured in a gamehigh 27 points to lead the Lady Hornets over the Lady Bulldogs.

Brandi Hout helped out with 13 for Hooks.

Jill Whitney paced Avery with 22 points, while teammate Cassidy Kelsoe added 14.

Hooks held a 12-point lead at the half and stayed on course. Avery tried to come back with a 25-point fourth quarter but came up short.

LINDEN-KILDARE 37, JAMES BOWIE 19

Siarra Johnson fired in 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and the Lady Tigers won.

Tiffany Chisum had a team-high six points for the Lady Pirates.

L-K out-scored James Bowie in each quarter and never trailed.

Boys LINDEN-KILDARE 70, HOOKS 64, OT

Ja’Kevian Rose hooped up 24 points, and the Tigers nipped the Hornets in overtime.

Marcus Jones contribute­d 13 points for L-K.

Connor Price shot in a game-high 26 points for Hooks. Seth Mahar added 14, and Carter Duncan had 11.

TAYLOR 66, REDWATER 42

Droux Staten lit up the nets for 19 points, and Taylor beat Redwater.

Isaac Minton contribute­d 15 for the Tigers.

Parker Gravitt paced the Dragons with nine points.

LINDEN-KILDARE 83, FOUKE 45

Marcus Jones hooped in a gamehigh 28 points, and the Tigers rolled past the Panthers.

Ja’Kevian Rose wasn’t far behind Jones with 27 points, and teammate LaDavion Johnson added 14 for L-K.

Landon Gonzalez had a team-high 16 points for Fouke. Jonah Parker helped out with 10.
