BOGATA, Texas— Daingerfield got untracked in the second half and ran away from Paris Chisum.

The Tigers shot 50 percent from the field after intermission, finishing with a 34 shooting percentage on 21 of 62 field goals, and overcame a sluggish start during their 56-42 victory over the Mustangs in a Class 3A bi-district boys playoff game at Rivercrest High School Monday.

Reggie Jeter caught fire for Daingerfield and tossed in five of his six 3-pointers in the second half, scoring 22 of his 27 points after the break.

“The film we watched on Chisum they played man-

to-man, but we felt like they would go to a zone (defense),” Daingerfield coach Curtis Lewis said. “We were pretty passive in the first half, and they had some guys who could shoot it. We had to guard those guys, and we do that.

“They knew they didn’t play well in the first half.”

The Tigers outscored the Mustangs, 38-19, in the second half.

Down five at halftime, Jeter’s first 3 of the third tied the game at 25 and came after putbacks by Tim and Timmyon Broner. The Mustangs responded with a pair of 3s, but Daingerfield rattled off the next 12 points in a row to go up 37-31.

Chisum made one more run, a 6-point rally tying the score 10 seconds into the fourth. The Tigers scored the next eight and turned that into a 19-3 streak, dominating the final period.

“What Chisum was showing us, we’ve seen so many times,” Lewis said. “Even though this is a young team, a rebuilding team, we can be successful when we go play. I was proud of them because they fought back; that’s what you’re going to get from Daingerfield.”

Tim Broner scored 14 points, Jeter had seven rebounds and Tim and Timmyon Broner each grabbed six boards. Daingerfield finished with a 37-35 lead on the glass.

The Tigers also committed just eight turnovers and forced 22 by Chisum.

Justin Porter scored 15 for the Mustangs, who finish their season at 16-13. Kalen Reeves had 13 rebounds and nine points, and Cam Branum added eight points.

Daingerfield advances to the area round to play either Arp or Ore City.
