A&M-Texarkana, Bethany split

Cole Beckham went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Texas A&M University-Texarkana over Bethany University 7-5 in the second game of a doublehead­er at George Dobson Field Sunday.

Neiko Yribe got the win, while teammate Ryan Fant earned a save for the Eagles.

Alex Kugler went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI, and one run scored for A&M-Texarkana.

Former Redwater standout Nick Anderson knocked in a run off a single and scored a run for the Eagles, while teammate Cameron Frost was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Despite getting three runs across in the ninth, A&MTexarkana was nudged by Bethany 9-8 in Sunday’s first game.

George Gugino went 2 for 3 and belted a solo home run,

Cade Davis hit a 2-run single, and catcher Michael Moore went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and a single for the Eagles.

Frost, Thomason, and Kolton Perfect had one RBI each for A&M-Texarkana. Anderson smacked a one-run double for the Eagles.

Frost went 2 for 5 with two singles and scored a run, but A&M-Texarkana fell to Bethany University 4-1 in the first game of a doublehead­er Saturday at George Dobson Field.

Gugino smacked a triple to score Frost in the third inning for the Eagles.

Bethany put up a run in the fourth and tacked on three more in the fifth. Daniel Blanco-Perez hit a 2-run homer for the Terrible Swedes.

Irving Ocasio went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI as Bethany edged A&MTexarkana 10-9 in the second game.

Blacno-Perez and Max Diaz had 2 RBI each for the Terrible Swedes.

Eagle designated hitter Nick Anderson went 2 for 3 with two scored runs, 2 RBI, and a double.

Darren Alexander, Cade Thomason and Beckham slapped in one run apiece for A&MTexarkana.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Lourens and Burt finish highest among Texas High state competitor­s

AUSTIN—Hunter Burt finished 14th in the boys’ 1-meter diving, while teammate Courtney Lourens was 14th in girls’ 1-meter diving for Texas High at the

Class 5A UIL State Swimming and Diving Championsh­ips Friday and Saturday at the Texas Swim Center.

Ohemaa Barnes took 15th in the 50 freestyle for the girls, and boys’ 1-meter diver Robert Bland was 16th.

Twenty-one Tigershark swimmers and divers qualified for the meet. Texas High’s girls finished 50th, while the boys were 47th.

Golf PG BOYS PLACE THIRD

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas— Pleasant Grove’s Braxton Watkins shot a 146 over a two-day period to lead the Hawks to a third place finish in the Sulphur Springs golf tournament Saturday.

The two-day tournament, which began Friday, had 19 teams from across the area participat­ing for top honors.

Ray Norton and Ben LeGrand carded a 153 each for the Hawks, Jathan White shot a 153, and Jackson Giles went into the clubhouse with a 160. PG shot a 306 on Friday and a 303 on Saturday.

Texas High’s girls participat­ed but did not have enough players to compete as a team.

Kasey Kane shot a 156, Lily Maxwell carded a 162, and Autumn Parrott had a 222 for the Lady Tigers.
