William Gray Davis, Jr., 92, of Texarkana, Tx, died Monday, February 27, 2017, in Hot Springs, Ar.

Mr. Davis was born to William Gray Davis, Sr., and Ophelia Melton Davis on August 5, 1924, in Jefferson, Tx.

Mr. Davis was predecease­d by his parents and thirteen brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one son, Charles Davis (Genia) of Hot Springs, Ar; one daughter, Janie Fields (Earl) of Austin, Tx; five grandchild­ren, Lesa Sowell of Boerne, Tx; Chuck Campbell (Debbi) of DeKalb, Tx; Gray Davis (Angie) of Atlanta, Tx; Reid Davis (Gretchen) of Lexington, SC; and Colt Davis (Ivee) of Highlands Ranch, CO; nine great grandchild­ren; four step great grandchild­ren; two great great grandchild­ren; one special niece, Donna Davis; one special nephew, Melvin James and special neighbors, Mike and Jennifer Spearman.

Mr. Davis served in the United States Army in World War II from 1943 until 1946, for a total of three years service. He was assigned to the 32nd Division, 127th Infantry Regiment, 114th Combat Engineers Battalion. While serving in the United States Army, he saw combat in Papuan, New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon Campaigns. His Division was then sent to Japan. During his service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, Pacific Campaign with 4 Stars, Philippine Liberation Campaign with 2 Stars, World War II Victory Medal, and Army Occupation Medal (Japan).

Mr. Davis returned to the states and went to work at the Red River Army Depot and retired with 35 Years of Service. He was a Baptist and was also heavily involved in the Shriner organizati­on. He was a founding member of the “Four Grumpy Old Men” hunting club and enjoyed setting up camp and riding his four wheeler.

Mr. Davis was a kind and generous man, offering assistance and taking food to family and friends who were in need. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.

A special thanks to the staff of Heritage Health and Rehab in Hot Springs, Ar, for taking such great care of our Dad.

The family will receive friends at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Graveside service will be 11:00 a. m. Thursday March 2nd at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Cranford Graves officiatin­g.
