Heart Walk set for May at Spring Lake Park

The American Heart Association gears up for the Heart Walk set for May 13 at Spring Lake Park in Texarkana, Texas.

People who are interested in forming a community Heart Walk team to participate in the event can attend a Community Kick Off lunch at noon March 28 at Texas Roadhouse, 4002 St. Michael Drive, Texarkana, Texas.

Register by March 25 to attend the luncheon by emailing Samantha Evans, corporate marketing director for the Texarkana area American Heart Association, at Samantha.evans@heart.org.

“Anybody is welcome. It’s completely free. We do ask for registration at the beginning and there is an opportunity to buy a T-shirt for a suggested $25 donation,” Evans said. “We’ll talk about how to start a community team and we’re also going to be doing some hands-on CPR training.”

Walk organizers are hoping for more than 1,000 walkers to participate in the

Heart Walk.

“We do two different recruitments- one through companies and one through the community. Community teams make up about 20 percent of walkers, but we’re hoping to increase that to reach more,” Evans said.

Teams raise money through fundraising. They can set up a team profile at Texarkanaheartwalk.org.

“You can share the profile on social media or raise money the old-fashioned way,” Evans said.
