A&M Eagles break away for 14-4 victory

Texas A&M University­Texarkana got off to a shaky start in its game against LSUShrevep­ort Friday evening, but the Eagles broke away with four runs in the bottom of the third inning and went on to a run-rule victory in seven innings, 14-4.

The teams will be in action again today with a doublehead­er at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at George Dobson Field.

LSU-S broke on top early with an unearned run in the first inning, but the Eagles wasted little time getting the run back.

Cole Beckham led off with a triple to right-center and scored on Bronson Butcher’s sacrifice fly to deep right field.

The Pilots regained the lead, 3-1, with two more unearned runs. Beaux Guilbeau drew a one-out walk and Francisco Rodriguez followed with a double. Guilbeau scored on an error and Layton Laird singled in the

the second run for the two-run advantage.

TAMU took the lead, 4-3, with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the second.

George Gugino and Chase Beebe led off with hits, and both runners scored when the ball got past the left fielder. Austin Vicknair singled and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Pilots tied the game, 4-4, with a run in the the third before the Eagles flew ahead with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the third for a 8-4 advantage.

Vicknair drove in the first two runs with a double and soon scored on a single by Kolton Perfect, who ended up at third following an error. Perfect then scored on a wild pitch.

After the first three innings, the Eagles’ Jason Jones settled down, allowing just two hits over the next four innings.

The Eagles put the game out of reach with five runs on just three hits in the fifth. Beebe and Beckham had singles before Cameron Frost drove in the final two runs with a double.

TAMU closed out the game with the 10-run mercy rule with two outs in the seventh.

After the first two batters were retired, Beckham was hit by the pitch, Butcher singled, and a walk to Frost loaded the bases. Ethan Davis then singled to left to end the game.
