Pine Tree one game back after beating Texas High, 8-7

Pine Tree’s baseball team got off the bus swinging a hot bat Tuesday at the Texas High Tigers’ diamond.

The Pirates (7-13-2, 2-4) pulled within one game of THS in the District 16-5A standings by banging out 14 hits to edge Texas High, 8-7.

The Tigers scored once in the seventh and had the bases loaded with two outs when PT reliever Cade Hardin got Colby Adkins on a fielder’s choice.

Pine Tree was also the benefactor of three Tiger errors, nine wild pitches and two passed balls.

Texas High (10-10, 3-3) never led in the game, but scored twice in the second off Pirate starter Will Harris to tie the score at 2-2. Harris walked three and gave up a two-run single to Chris Lyles.

Four Pirate pitchers combined to allow only seven hits, but they also walked nine and combined for eight wild pitches of their own.

It was 5-2 in the fourth when Rubin Ramierez walked, moved up on a single by Walker Davis before scoring on another single by Lyles.

The score stood at 7-3 going

to the bottom of the sixth.

Cole Christen was hit by a pitch, and raced to third on Davis’ double down the left field line. Christen scored on Eric Sutton’s single to right. Two walks and a wild pitch made it 7-6.

PT’s A.J. Brown singled to start the Pirates’ seventh and would eventually score what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch.

Christen was hit again to start the Tigers’ seventh. Sutton walked after a fielder’s choice. Pinch-runner Cole Jeans scored on Hearne’s single to right and Conner Allred walked to load the bases to stage the final out.

Daylon Bearden and Cade Hardin had three hits each for the Pirates, while Harris and winning pitcher Pokey Best contribute­d two hits.

Lyles, Hearne and Davis had two hits each for the Tigers, who host Marshall Friday in a game, where the winner will be in third place. Pine Tree 111 202 1 – 8 14 0 Texas High 020 103 1 – 7 7 3
