Lady Razorbacks take down Hope

- By Brian Tyl

The pitching made the difference.

Kaitlyn Fortenberry threw five innings, struck out nine, scattered three hits and walked one as Arkansas High run ruled Hope, 12-2, in a conference softball game Friday.

“Kaitlyn was outstanding in the circle today,” Lady Back head coach Elizabeth Tankersly said. “She did a great job, and I couldn’t be more proud of her.

“We played Hope earlier in the season, and I can tell that we have improved.”

Raley Potter, who was less than 100 percent, threw four innings, hit one batter, struck out two, walked four, gave up a hit and five earned runs for the Lady Bobcats.

Kaley Green came in to pitch for Hope in the third, hit two, walked three, gave up one hit and six earned runs.

Alyssa Smith was hit by a pitch in the first, got on third after two pitches, and scored on a fielder’s choice for the Lady Backs’ first run in the first. Fortenberry, who walked, stole second, got to third on the fielder’s choice, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 in favor of Arkansas High.

Kate Todd landed safely on first after a Hope throwing error, and two straight walks loaded the bases for Smith who smacked a 2-run single to left center. Sydnee Blackwell, who had walked, scored on a fielder’s choice to make it 5-0.

Andria Curtis had an RBI single to left field for Hope’s first run and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2.

Arkansas High put up six runs in the third and batted around. Kailey Burns hit a single up the middle to put two on with no outs, and the bases filled up when Karen Camacho was hit by a pitch.

The Lady Backs put up five runs after a passed ball, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and a trio of walks. Arkansas High, up 10-2, added on a run after Adison Wright’s blooped in an RBI single to shallow left center.

Todd, who took first base after a call of catcher interference, moved up to second on a wild pitch for Arkansas High in the fourth. Todd was moved up to third on a fielder’s choice and scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-2.

Fortenberry retired the side in the fifth frame with three strikeouts.
