TMS raising funds for Ace of Clubs
Texarkana Museums System is seeking financial support from the community for a matching grant application to make necessary improvements to the Ace of Clubs House.
Specifically, TMS is in round two of an application to the Texarkana Preservation Trust Fund for repairs and restoration work that involves drainage issues, roof repairs and gutter replacement. The agency needs $25,276 in hand by July 14 for a $50,276 grant proposal.
“The grant, if awarded, represents a truly significant opportunity for our museums system to begin on an improvement plan identified by our board, staff and a restoration specialist from Little Rock. It would be a springboard for us to carry on with work that Henry Moore III, the last child to reside in the home, was excited to see tackled just prior to his death,” said Velvet Hall Cool, TMS board president.
The TPTF was created in 1989 to address historic preservation in
Texas.
“To have made it to round two of this application process speaks to the significance of our needs and the value of our property in Texas' landscape of historical treasures. More than half of the initial applicants were weeded out during the round one process, and of the 30 selected to continue, about 10 to 15 will be awarded,” Cool said.
The public can support this application in one of three ways: Online: GoFundMe.com/ AceofClubsWindows; In person: Ace of Clubs House Restoration Fund xxx7750 at any BancorpSouth location or any TMS property; By mail: Ace of Clubs House Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 2343, Texarkana, TX 75504.
