Hughes Springs wins tennis tourneys

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas—Hughes Springs’ boys and girls won the District 14-3A tennis tournament Tuesday with 85 and 150 points, respective­ly.

Kirbie Young of Hughes Springs won the girls’ singles title. Young and Mariana Armendariz of Queen City advanced to regionals.

Riley Hamilton of Hooks captured the boys’ singles title. Hamilton and teammate Evan McKeever will play in the regional tournament.

Kali Calcote and Carson Moreland of Hughes Springs earned the girls’ doubles title and advanced to regionals. Paul Pewitt’s Brelee Lawings and Kenzie Traylor also advanced.

Sebastian Martinez and Ty Rozell of Pewitt won the boys’ doubles title. Martinez and Rozell advanced as well as Hughes Springs’ Troy and Trey Beam to the regional tournament.

Gabe DuBose and Cypress Wright of Hughes Springs captured the mixed doubles title. DuBose and Wright along with the team of Coby Lacefield and Margaret Cranford of Redwater advanced to the regional tournament.

The regional tournament will be held at Tyler Junior College on April 17-18.

Softball

FOUKE 4, MENA 2

MENA, Ark.—Fouke held on to edge past Mena in a varsity conference softball clash on the road.

Tabi Floyd received the win in the circle for the Lady Panthers.

Crysta Larey belted a 2-run homerun in the fifth inning for the Lady Panthers. Larey went 1 for 4 at the plate with two RBI.

Mallory Oliver was 2 for 4 at the dish for the Lady Panthers.

JAMES BOWIE 11, BLOOMBURG 1

SIMMS, Texas—James Bowie defeated Bloomburg in a district varsity baseball match.

Bailey Obenoskey received the win on the hill for the Pirates. Obenoskey had 15 strikeouts in the contest and also went 2 for 4 with one RBI at the plate.

Cody Roberson was 2 for 2 at the dish, adding three RBI for James Bowie.

Dylan Trissel kept the Pirates’ bats warm, going 2 for 3 and adding a RBI at the plate.

James Bowie is 14-3 overall and 6-0 in district play.

The Pirates are back in action this Friday at 6:00 p.m., hosting Avery. Bloomburg 010 000 — 1 2 0 James Bowie 202 223 —11 11 2 Game called in 6th, 10-run rule.
