Hughes Springs, Hooks girls win, set up district title showdown

The District 14-3A softball championsh­ip has been set between two stateranke­d teams.

Front-running Hughes Springs (22-2 and ranked No. 7 in Class 3A) and runner-up Hooks (24-1 and ranked No. 3) will collide for the league regular-season title at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hooks.

In their league games Friday, Hughes Springs defeated Queen City, 5-2, and Hooks beat DeKalb, 3-0.

The Lady Mustangs are 12-1 in league while the Lady Hornets are 11-2.

HUGHES SPRINGS 5, QUEEN CITY 2

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas—Peyton Blythe, Peal Perry and Marisol Kennedy had multiple hits to ignite the Lady Mustangs. Abbye McKinney and Kennedy drove in two runs each.

Kennedy got the win in relief of Zoe Lanier. Lanier pitched the first three innings, giving up one run and three hits. Kennedy came on and recorded the final 12 outs to notch the win.

HOOKS 3, DEKALB 0

DEKALB, Texas—Hooks pitcher Marena Estell pitched a 2-hit shutout and fanned 12 as the Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Bears.

Korey Brooks and Brandi Hout drove in two runs each and Rachel Latimer had a hit for the Lady Hornets. Bailey Blackstone had two hits for DeKalb.

The Hornets scored two runs in the second inning and added another in the sixth.

JAMES BOWIE 7, BLOOMBURG 4

SIMMS, Texas—Savannah Smith smacked a 3-run double for James Bowie as it defeated Bloomburg at Lady Pirate Field.

Josie Stubblefie­ld laced in a 2-run double for James Bowie, and teammate Lindsey Rogers drove in two runs on a single.

Haylee Pond and Kalea Cloninger each hit an RBI double for the Lady Wildcats.

Mally Hammonds (5-2) got the win in the circle.

NEW BOSTON 7, DAINGERFIE­LD 1

DAINGERFIE­LD, Texas—New Boston used its late game spurt to defeat Daingerfie­ld in a varsity softball district showdown.

Morgan McAlexande­r received the win in the circle for the Lady Lions. McAlexande­r added three hits at the plate and chipped in an RBI.

Angel Evans and Hannah White, both collected two hits for New Boston.

Evans also chipped in three RBI for the Lady Lions.

ASHDOWN 11, PULASKI ROBINSON 0

ASHDOWN, Ark.—Lannah Huddleston and Adaysia Thompson combined for a 3-hitter in the circle as Ashdown shut out Pulaski Robinson.

Mackenzie White slapped three singles and drove in a pair of runs for the Lady Panthers. Huddleston hit a 3-run single, and teammate Brittany Johnson had a 2-run single for Ashdown.

Baseball QUEEN CITY 11, HUGHES SPRINGS 4

QUEEN CITY, Texas—Queen City banged out 15 hits in rolling to the District 14-3A win over the Mustangs.

The host Bulldogs took the lead for good with four runs in the third inning off losing pitcher Harrison Reagen. Kyle Parker, Jaeger Jaynes and Kade Brooks singled in runs and another scored on an error.

Josue Rea pitched all seven innings and picked up the win. He seven hits, four hits ad struck out two. Reagen went six innings, allowing 14 hits, 10 runs and striking out six.

Nate Burden, Brooks, Jaeger Jaynes, Parker and Rea had multiple hits for Queen City, with Brooks and Parker knocking in two runs apiece.

The Bulldogs (15-5, 7-3) will host Daingerfie­ld on Tuesday.

LINDEN-KILDARE 16, DETROIT 3

LINDEN, Texas—Linden-Kildare 10 run-ruled Detroit in a varsity district baseball game.

Trent Wert received the win on the hill for the Tigers.

Deuce Schuler, Caleb Cunningham and Marty Johnson collected two hits apiece for L-K. The Tigers are 12-8 overall and 7-3 in district play.

NASHVILLE 14, GENOA CENTRAL 4

GENOA, Ark.—Nashville 10-run-ruled Genoa Central on the road in a varsity baseball conference contest.

Chris Willard received the win on the hill for the Scrappers.

Zach Jamison collected two hits for

Nashville.

Jayden Hostetler finished with three hits and an RBI for the Scrappers.

Nashville is 16-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

Tyler Moreland had two hits and an

RBI for the Dragons.

JAMES BOWIE 11, AVERY 1 REDWATER 10, PAUL PEWITT 1

SIMMS, Texas—James Bowie runruled Avery on Senior Night at home.

Cody Roberson received the win for the Pirates on the hill. Roberson struck out four in six innings of work.

Caige Crowley went 3 for 3 for James Bowie, chipping in three RBI.

Evan Barron and Logan Graham, both collected two hits for the Pirates on the night.

Senior Mason Plunk went 1 for 3 for James Bowie, ending the game with a walk-off single.

The Pirates are 15-3 overall and 10-0 in district competitio­n.

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas—Redwater defeated Paul Pewitt in a varsity district baseball match.

Taylor Dye received the win on the hill for the Dragons.

Brayden Ross was 2 for 4 for Redwater, adding three RBI.

Ryan Seddens was 1 for 3 at the plate for the Dragons, adding two RBI.

Mason Roberson added an RBI for Redwater.
