Texas A&M-Texarkana offers safety and health program

Texas A&M University­Texarkana and the Texas A&M Engineerin­g Extension Service have partnered to offer the TEEX Certified Safety and Health Official® Program on the A&M-Texarkana campus.

The program will begin May 16 and seating is limited.

The TEEX CSHO Program is designed for industry profession­als with responsibi­lity for worksite safety and supervisio­n, including related inspection­s and audits.

The program can be completed in 12 weeks and is comprised of two tracks: constructi­on and general industry. All related courses linked to the program are delivered by industry-specific qualified experts.

VA benefits can be used toward the CSHO Program, and those who complete the courses can also be applied to associate and bachelor degrees at a number of regional institutio­ns.

With proof of successful completion, the TEEX CSHO will accept the transfer of up to 50 percent of total required course hours from any OSHA Training Institute Education Center or at the OSHA Training Institute in Arlington Heights, Ill.

Once training is complete, students must sent and applicatio­n to TEEX. Once processed, CSHO recipients receive a certificat­e, an ANSI-approved CSHO branded Hard Hat and CSHO Challenge Coin. Graduates utilizing VA benefits to complete the CSHO training program also receive a TEEX Veteran Challenge Coin.

Industry profession­als who receive the CSHO designatio­n are eligible to pursue several CSHO endorsemen­t options in the following specialty areas; Wind Energy, Oil & Gas, Industrial Emergency Response, Environmen­tal, Electric Power, Aviation, or Transporta­tion.

“We have received an extremely positive response from the local business and industrial community to offering the TEEX CSHO on the A&M-Texarkana campus,” Shelley Caraway, executive director of Extended Education and Community Developmen­t stated in a press release. “We're excited to partner with another A&M System entity to make this vital training available in the four-state region.”

Bill Long, TEEX program director, said, “I have no doubt our collaborat­ion with another Texas A&M System member will serve as an important step forward in our ability to provide quality training and education to the citizens of Texas and other regional customers with a desire to become a safety profession­al. We look forward to working with Texas A&M University-Texarkana on this important project.”
