Local, area teams vie for track titles today

LUCAS, Texas—Texas High will be well represente­d in both the boys and girls divisions today at the Area 15-16 5A Track & Field Championsh­ips at Lovejoy ISD Stadium in Lucas, Texas.

The meet features schools from 16-5A, which includes THS, Sulphur Springs, Greenville, Mount Pleasant, Hallsville, Pine Tree and Marshall. Several Mesquite schools, Lovejoy and Highland Park make up 15-5A.

Competitio­n begins at 9:30 a.m. with the 3200-meter finals.

The field events begin at 10 a.m. with the girls’ pole vault, boys’ long jump and boys’ shot put.

The field events are scheduled to be completed at 2:30 p.m. with the girls’ triple jump and discus.

The running finals begin at 5:05 p.m. with the 4x400 relay. The final running event is set for 7:35 p.m.

Today’s medal winners advance to the Region II-5A championsh­ips next week at the University of TexasArlin­gton.

Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for students. Class 4A

ATLANTA, Texas—LibertyEyl­au, Pleasant Grove and Atlanta will be amongst the 12 teams vying for gold at the Area 13-14 4A Track & Field Championsh­ips at Atlanta High School’s Rabbit Stadium today.

Paris, North Lamar, and Pittsburg complete the 14-4A teams, while Brownsboro, Canton, Emory Rains, Mabank, Van and Wills Point are the 13-4A schools.

Field events start at 11 a.m, and the 3200-meter run begins at 11:15. Running events commence at 2:30.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the Region II-4A championsh­ips next week at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Class 3A

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas— Fifteen schools will be represente­d at the Area 13-14 3A track and field meet today at Paul Pewitt’s Brahma Stadium.

The 3,200 meters is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with field events set for 11 a.m. Running finals will begin one hour after the field events are completed, or approximat­ely 4 p.m. with the final event scheduled for around 6 p.m.

Joining host Paul Pewitt will be teams from Daingerfie­ld, DeKalb, Hooks, Hughes Springs, New Boston, Queen City and Redwater from 14-3A, and from 13-3A are teams from Como-Pickton, Cooper, Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, Mount Vernon, Chisum, Prairiland and Winnsboro.

The top four finishers advance to the Region II-3A championsh­ip meet at Whitehouse High School April 28-29.
