Cheers & Jeers

-

JEERS: To a judicial system (laws and/or juries) that allows a person with five previous convictions for DWI to remain free and a danger to others on the road. One such person in Bowie County was only recently convicted and sentenced to 10 years prison time on his sixth (known) DWI. Is not such a person one who can maim and kill innocent people the first time he or she drives while under the influence of alcohol and drugs? A person is free to pickle himself and to suffer the physical consequences. He should not be free, however, to endanger others.—M.M.T. Texarkana, TX

CHEERS: I just want to thank D.H.M. (Cheers and Jeers, April 15, 2017) and show agreement in a word that’s escaped my vocabulary. I’ve lived more than 80 years and lost a few expressions, but DHM has stated my feelings succinctly and is to be congratulated for this part of her (or his) Jeers: “While many who are in agreement with those using this “excuse”, defending condemned murderers, show little or no concern for pain inflicted, as more than 10,000 late term abortions a year are inflicted on the innocent.” Thank you, D.H.M., and may God strengthen you as you speak your mind on behalf of the innocent!—R.B.H., Texarkana, Texas

CHEERS: To the man and woman who were picking roadside trash along Jefferson Ave. between the interstate and Sugarhill Road. —T.P., Texarkana, Ark.

CHEERS: To the Gazette for running the 100-year-old and 50-year-old news. Vivian Osborne does a good job. A couple of times the

paper didn’t have it and I was afraid they had quit it. I enjoy it.—M.V., Texarkana, Texas.

JEERS: To a local new car dealer. I have purchased five vehicles from them. After becoming a victim of life circumstances and being told they would help if something happened to buy back/ sell, they offered no help when I recently visited to purchase a vehicle. But Cheers to a local preowned dealer who came through with a workable deal.—K.K.K., Texarkana, Ark.

CHEERS: To B.R. (Cheers and Jeers, April 15, 2017) who suggested dentist and doctors’ offices switch the TV sets in their waiting rooms to more neutral channels. He or she offered some very good alternatives. My preference would be for the offices to simply remove the TVs.—M.M., Texarkana, Ark.
