Air show, Blue Angels coming to Bossier City

BOSSIER CITY, La.— Defenders of Liberty Air Show is set for May 6-7 at Barksdale Air Force Base. Gates open at 9 a.m., and the show will begin at 11 a.m. each day. Admission is free. The event, which is expected to draw more than 100,000 attendees, serves as an official open house and recruiting event for the base and all branches of the military.

The Blue Angels, the Navy's premier aerial demonstrat­ion team, will headline this year's festivitie­s. Other flying acts will include a P-51 Mustang, A-26 Invader, MiG-17 and the Army Golden Knights parachute team. Also performing will be acrobatic pilots, including Kevin Coleman, Mike Goulian and Jeremy Holt.

There will be a variety of static displays on the ground, with crew members serving as guides.

Attendees can access the base through the North (Bossier) or West (Shreveport) gates. Defense Department ID cardholder­s also can use the South (Bellaire) gate.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the air show. There will be water bottle filling stations throughout the spectator area. Since there are very few shaded areas, sunscreen is recommende­d, organizers say.
