Flood warnings issued for area

Flood warnings were issued Friday morning for several parts of the Four States Area starting Sunday, and a flash flood watch is in effect tonight.

The flash flood watch was issued by the National Weather Service in Shreveport, La., for Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning in Hempstead, Howard, Little River, Nevada and Sevier counties in Southwest Arkansas and McCurtain County in Southeast Oklahoma.

Showers and thundersto­rms will increase across those areas Saturday ahead of a slow-moving cold front, the warning states. Widespread rainfall should be 3 to 5 inches, “with isolated higher amounts in excess of 6 inches” possible Saturday afternoon and night, according to NWS.

Flood warnings were issued Friday for Little River at Idabel, Okla., and Horatio, Ark., starting Sunday afternoon.

The warning at Horatio lasts through Tuesday night or until canceled and forecasts moderate flooding. The river's expected to exceed flood stage, 27 feet, by Sunday afternoon and crest near 29 1/2 feet Monday morning. Waters should recede by late Tuesday morning, according to NWS.

Moderate flooding is expected at Idabel, and the warning is in effect until further notice. Flood stage there is 30 feet, and the river is expected to hit 32 feet early Tuesday.

A flood warning issued at 9:59 a.m. Friday states the Sulphur River near Naples, Texas, is expected to flood Sunday night and crest Tuesday at 27 1/2 feet. Flood stage is 22 feet.

Black Cypress Bayou at Jefferson, Texas, is also expected to flood Tuesday and Wednesday.
