Area teams compete in regionals

The area will be well-represente­d at the annual UIL state track and field championsh­ips in Austin next week.

At the regional track meets, which finished Saturday, four teams brought home second place trophies at their respective championsh­ips.

At Springtown in the Region II-2A meet, Linden-Kildare took second in the boys division with 61 points, and Clarksvill­e was third with 60 points.

Hooks also was runner-up in the Region II-3A boys meet at Whitehouse’s Wildcat Stadium. The Hornets scored 59 points with Dallas Life Oak Cliff scoring 82 for first.

Liberty-Eylau’s girls placed second in the Region II-4A meet at Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Memorial Stadium, and Atlanta’s boys just missed the II-4A championsh­ip, Dallas Carter edging the Rabbs, 76-75.

The top two from each event advance to the state championsh­ip meets, held Thursday May 11 through Saturday, May 13 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Texas High’s Hannah Higgins was second in the Region II-5A girls discus with a toss of 135-3 to qualify for state.

In Class 4A, Atlanta’s Teshuna Shepard won the triple jump in Commerce with a distance of 40-1.

Lamiyah George ran 25.07 for second in the 200 meters for the Lady Leopards, and Taoni Reynolds qualified for L-E in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.43. Liberty-Eylau also qualified its 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

On the boys side, Atlanta’s Trin Taylor won the long jump and triple jump for the Rabbs. Taylor jumped 24-4 1/2 and triple jumped 47-1 3/4.

Josh Edwards won the 300 hurdles for Atlanta in 39.30, and the Rabbs also qualified its 4x100 relay team with a 42.08 for gold.

In the 3A meet at Whitehouse, DeKalb’s Alexia Wherry was runner-up in the girls high jump with a height of 5-5 to qualify for the state meet. Daingerfie­ld’s 4x200 relay team also was second in 1:43.62.

On the boys side, Montrell Estell won the triple jump for Hooks with a distance of 45-10 1/2. Seth Mahar also qualified by placing second in the 300 hurdles in 39.82, and Hooks’ 4x200 relay was second in 1:29.59.

Paul Pewitt’s Daryl Turner was runner-up in the 400 meters in 50.38, and Ja’quan Jackson of DeKalb was second in the 100 meters in 11.03.

In the 2A girls meet at Springtown, James Bowie’s Kaytlyn Sweatman advances to state in the 1600 and 3200 meters. Sweatman won the 1600 in 5:26.28 and was second in the 3200 in 11:51.03.

On the boys side, Clarksvill­e’s Clashon Gaffney won the long jump (22-8 1/2) and triple jump (47-4 1/2)/

Linden-Kildare won the 4x200 relay in 1:31.83, and Clarksvill­e was second in 1:32.77. Both advance to the state meet, and Clarksvill­e’s 4x100 relay won in 43.47.

Linden-Kildare’s Ty Patterson cleared 6-0 in the high jump to place second, and teammate Marcus Jones was runner-up in the 200 meters in 22.90.

Maud also had Jordan Creutz run 51.40 in the 400 meters to finish second and qualify for state.
