- By Brian Tyl

Pleasant Grove is hungry for a state title.

The Hawks take on Canton today in Game 1 of a bestof-3 series at 4:30 p.m. at Hawk Field in the Class 4A regional quarterfinals.

Game 2 is at 1 p.m. at Canton High School and details for a Game 3, if needed, have yet to be deter

mined.

Senior ace pitcher Caleb Bolden gets the start for Pleasant Grove.

“Our kids are excited to play and there is definitely extra excitement being in the playoffs,” Hawk head coach Riley Fincher said. “Our goal is to come out and compete at a high level, and I believe our kids have been doing that.”

Pleasant Grove is 29-3 and came into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed from District 14-4A. Canton is the District 13-4A champion and have a record of 26-5.

“Canton has had an outstanding year,” Fincher said. “They beat a very good Bullard team last week. They swing the bats really well, and you don't win 26 games if you aren't a good

ball team. Coach Jeff Priest has done a great job. We are going to have to get good pitching and, offensively, we'll have to get timely hitting in order to produce as many runs as we can.”

Bolden gets the nod on the hill for PG, and Keaton Russo is the catcher. Will Hlavinka starts at first, Cade Thompson is the second baseman, Connor Ouellette plays third, and rounding out the infield at shortstop will be either Nathan Brinkley or Jackson Cobb.

Brinkley or Cobb will play left field, Carson Cox starts at center, and Heath Ferguson plays right with Tyler Jeans as the designated hitter.

PG is coming off a a best-of-3 series win over Spring Hill in the area round as they won two games to none, 3-1 and 10-0.

The Eagles edged Bullard 4-3 in its 1-game area round playoff.“I expect both teams to come out and compete at a high level, and we're expecting a great series between two quality teams.”
