Informatio­n fair to provide advice to veterans, kin

Local and area veterans seeking informatio­n on benefits may find what they need at the 21st annual Veterans Informatio­n Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Elks Lodge 2771.

The fair will include about 20 medical, legal, business, education, job and service organizati­ons and agencies.

The fair, hosted by Texarkana Area Vietnam Veterans of America 278, has invited the Texas Veterans Commission, the Texarkana Veterans Administra­tion Outpatient Clinic, Texas Workforce Commission, Arkansas Workforce Commission, Overton Brooks VA Medical Center of Shreveport, Little Rock’s VA Medical Center, the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administra­tion and local veterans service officers and VA field office personnel.

Other participan­ts will include East Funeral Home, Hospice of Texarkana, the American Red Cross, Lone Star Legal Aid, the Area Agency for the Aging from both Texas and Arkansas, Dierksen Hospice, Red River Federal Credit Union, Home Depot and veterans education counselors from Texarkana College and Texas A&M University -Texarkana.

The fair is free and open to all veterans in active military service, the reserves and National Guard, as well as their immediate family members.

There also will be a voter registrati­on drive for both Texas and Arkansas.
