Chief William H. McGee
Chief William H. McGee, 90 of Texarkana, TX. passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 in a local hospital. Chief McGee was born September 12, 1926 in Texarkana, TX. He was a Marine veteran of WWII. He began his public service career in 1949 with the Texarkana Texas Police Dept. serving as Chief from 1968 until his retirement in 1985. He then joined Bowie County Probation Dept. in 1985 serving as Chief from 1989 until his second retirement in 1998. He was also a member of the East Texas Police Chiefs Association, the Texas Police Chiefs Association, the International Chiefs of Police, and a graduate of the FBI Academy. He was appointed by Texas Governors to the Criminal Justice Council and the Texas Commission on Criminal Justice Standards and Goals. He, Chief Roy Stone and the East Texas Police Chiefs Association established the East Texas Police Academy. He was instrumental in establishing the NCIC and the Bowie County Crimestoppers program. When he wasn’t working, he and his wife, Susie, enjoyed hunting and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Lake McGee, his son, William Shaun McGee, and faithful companion, Buddy.
He is survived by his daughter, Katherine McGee of Texarkana, TX, daughter-in-law, Edie McGee of Henderson, TX, sisterin-law Jean Landgraf, eight grandchildren, eighteen greatgrandchildren, one soon-to-be great-great-grandchild, and a number of nieces, nephews and family.
Funeral service will be Monday, May 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Clyde “Sonny” Bowers officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. at East Funeral Home - Moores Lane. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
