State Bank’s mission: Growing for You

State Bank is a growing community bank with longtime roots in Bowie County. A traditional community bank, State Bank excels at delivering personal service through its four-branch network, its electronic delivery channels, and most importantly, its team of energetic and qualified bankers.

“I have been involved in banking for 30 years, 25 in Texarkana, and I can honestly say that this is the best team of bankers in which I’ve been involved,” says Joe Nichols, CEO. “We are like family. Everyone, every day pulls their own weight. When one of us has a bad day, someone steps in to pick that person up.”

State Bank serves outstanding customers in western Bowie County, Red River County, McCurtain County, Little River County, and more recently through its branch expansion, the Texarkana area including Miller County. “We are driven to serve the communities in which we operate especially providing loans to small businesses, real estate developers, home buyers and local farmers and ranchers. We understand that for us to become the best bank in Northeast Texas the communities we serve have to thrive. We will do our part.”

State Bank of DeKalb has been serving this area since 1937. DeKalb’s Moser brothers, Otto and Norman, acquired the bank in 1964. Their families continue as the controlling shareholders providing the leadership, capital, oversight and family culture to State Bank.

Current Board of Directors are Mary Ann Oden, Steve Oden, Janie Matteson, Chris Moser, Fred Gilliam and Joe Nichols. Steve Oden served as State Bank’s chairman beginning in 1972 and was succeeded by his nephew, Joe Nichols, in 2011. Fred Gilliam served as State Bank’s president from 1973 to 2007.

Market presidents Aaron Calvit and Jim Clark lead the bank’s DeKalb and Clarksville branches, while Texarkana Market president Chris Lannom and Mortgage SVP Toni Brooks lead the Texarkana expansion.

Support services based in DeKalb are led by Monica Minter, COO, and Cris Day, CFO.
