Texarkana Gazette finds new home

-

After more than 85 years on Pine Street, the Texarkana Gazette found a new home for news gathering at the Landmark Building.

Now located on the Arkansas side where State Line Avenue meets Broad Street, the Gazette and its team of editors, reporters, advertising representatives and other folks who make the newspaper the voice of the Texarkana community all enjoy more modern conveniences at the Landmark. The Gazette’s press and distribution operations remain at the Pine Street spot.

The Landmark is older than the former Gazette building, but it was renovated in recent decades by David Potter. A more spacious setting, digital upgrades and a more contemporary appearance all make the Landmark a place where the Gazette can grow. The bottom two floors of the Landmark were remodeled to suit the Gazette’s needs.

The move was a couple of years in the making and gives the Gazette a physical presence in each state. Instead of the open air newsroom of old, journalists are now camped in their own departments, such as sports or copy editing.

While the new digs were welcomed by staff, the Gazette’s people have a nostalgic connection to the Pine Street location, where editors like J.Q. Mahaffey held court and typesetters prepared the papers of yesteryear. It’s was a place visited by notable guests, including LBJ and Heloise.
