TASD announces Teacher of Year

The Texarkana, Ark., School District recently named Anne Formby as the 2016-17 Teacher of the Year. She teaches math at Arkansas High School and also serves as head of the mathematic­s department.

Formby is a 1984 graduate of Arkansas High and completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Notre Dame in 1988. She earned a Master of Science degree in education from Henderson State University.

She began her career as a math teacher at Fa’asao High School in American Samoa, where she also served as the mathematic­s and computer department head and curriculum coordinato­r. She has taught advanced mathematic­s, pre-algebra, Algebra I & II, geometry, trigonomet­ry and statistics at high schools in both Texas and Arkansas.

Formby joined the Razorback family in 2008 and said she believes that, as a teacher, it is her duty to ensure future generation­s are properly educated to sustain this great nation.

Formby has also received several awards, including the 2007 Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Standing Ovation Award, Tandy Technology Scholars Outstandin­g Teacher and Campus Teacher of the Year.

“We are pleased to name Mrs. Formby the 2016-17 Texarkana Arkansas School District Teacher of the Year,” Superinten­dent Dr. Becky Kesler stated in a press release.

She will go on to compete for Arkansas State Teacher of the Year, which will be announced in the fall.
