TASD announces Teacher of Year
The Texarkana, Ark., School District recently named Anne Formby as the 2016-17 Teacher of the Year. She teaches math at Arkansas High School and also serves as head of the mathematics department.
Formby is a 1984 graduate of Arkansas High and completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Notre Dame in 1988. She earned a Master of Science degree in education from Henderson State University.
She began her career as a math teacher at Fa’asao High School in American Samoa, where she also served as the mathematics and computer department head and curriculum coordinator. She has taught advanced mathematics, pre-algebra, Algebra I & II, geometry, trigonometry and statistics at high schools in both Texas and Arkansas.
Formby joined the Razorback family in 2008 and said she believes that, as a teacher, it is her duty to ensure future generations are properly educated to sustain this great nation.
Formby has also received several awards, including the 2007 Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Standing Ovation Award, Tandy Technology Scholars Outstanding Teacher and Campus Teacher of the Year.
“We are pleased to name Mrs. Formby the 2016-17 Texarkana Arkansas School District Teacher of the Year,” Superintendent Dr. Becky Kesler stated in a press release.
She will go on to compete for Arkansas State Teacher of the Year, which will be announced in the fall.
