Lester Lawrence Stout, 89, of De Kalb, Texas passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 at a Texarkana, Texas hospital.

Lester was born in Avery, Texas to Kermit and Irby on February 3, 1928. Lester always loved farming, and animals. He was a self-taught harmonica player, learned to train horses, and has held many jobs throughout his life including plumbers assistant, cotton picker, and baker to name a few. Lester has been a member of Hubbard Missionary Baptist church since 1957 where he has served as a deacon for a number of years as well as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superinten­dent, and a Hubbard ISD School Board member. He was drafted in the United States Army in 1950 where he served in the Korean Conflict and achieved the rank of sergeant. He served with the 9th AAA Gun Battalion on 120 anti-aircraft guns, and as a cook. Lester made a career at Red Diver Army Depot where he retired after 40 years. He was the patriarch of Stout Farms.

Lester is preceded in death by his father; Kermit Stout, mother; Irby Walker Stout, Stepmother; Ettie Stout. Sisters; Dicie Hooper & Clora Hackle.

Lester is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Bettie Hawkins Stout, Children; David Stout (Brenda), Debbi Campbell (Chuck), Detra Janzen (Scott), Dena Welicki (David), Grandchild­ren; Jarrid Stout, Jessica Capps (Daniel), Austin Proctor, Whitney Proctor, Greatgrand­child; Jordan Lee, Sister; Linda Russ (Curley).

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas. Interment will follow at Hubbard Chapel Cemetery in De Kalb, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.
