Laughlin AFB husband wins Spouse of the Year award

- Megan Tackett

Laughlin Air Force Base spouse A d am Fleurimond won Grantham University’s Military Spouse of the Year award in early May with his wife’s heartfelt one-minute video submission.

“He is resilient, strong, patient, dedicated, adaptable, flexible,” LAFB First Sergeant and Grantham graduate Jessica Fleurimond said in her video. “But most importantly, he is my number one supporter, my superhero.”

Jessica said she submitted her video to a large pool of female-spouse contestants to honor her husband of 13 years and his dedication to their family and other families in the community.

“I don’t feel I do a good job at letting him know he’s appreciated,” Jessica said.

“I knew this was the perfect way to let him know you do matter and you do great things for the family and the military families.”

Adam earned his title by helping out at Laughlin’s youth center, coaching local little league teams, and unhesitatingly immersing himself in the typically female-dominated spouse organizations.

“I’m usually the one guy

hanging out with a bunch of women,” Adam said.

“I don’t mind etching glass and making cupcakes.

“Plus, you hear all the good gossip.”

The couple met at Adam’s cousin’s 2004 wedding in West Palm Beach Florida.

Adam said he wasn’t fazed when he learned about Jessica’s military career and the reality of constant relocation that comes with loving a military member.

“When I met her, from there it was just, ‘Let’s roll.’” Adam said.

“I didn’t care what she was doing. None of it bothered me.”

From Florida, the couple moved to San Antonio, where Jessica was stationed at Lackland and Adam worked as a car salesman at a KIA dealership.

They later relocated to Del Rio and will move to Tuscan, Ariz. in November, before Jessica completes a one-year tour in Turkey.

Adam said he and their 11-year-old son, Giovanni, are taking the news in stride.

“We plan on playing Will Smith’s ‘Just the Two of Us’ every morning,” he said.

Grantham University awarded the Fleurimonds with a $500 credit to the restaurant of their choice.

Adam treated himself, his family and their closest friends to Cripple Creek, where he dined on delicious quail, he said.

‘I’m usually the one guy hanging out with a bunch of women.’
