TC names new dean of workforce, community and business education

Texarkana College has named Brandon Washington as dean of Workforce and Community and Business Education. Washington brings more than 10 years of educationa­l leadership and strong community ties to the position.

“This community is important to me, and the idea of working with local students, educators and businesses is something I am passionate about, and I am ready to get started,” Washington said. “I look forward to working with community stakeholde­rs and partners to promote and grow TC’s workforce programs.”

He said TC has a team of dynamic educators and leaders who provide quality workforce training that supports current employers and drives economic growth.

“TC wants the best for the greater Texarkana area, and I am honored to have an opportunit­y to serve in this position,” Washington said.

Washington is a member of the executive board of the Boy Scouts of AmericaCad­do Area Council, and has previously served on the boards of HandsOn Texarkana and First Tee of Texarkana. He is also a 2009 graduate of Leadership Texarkana. He holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Arkansas and a master’s degree in educationa­l administra­tion from Lamar University.

Dr. Donna McDaniel, TC’s vice president of instructio­n, said Washington is invested in the community and has a clear vision for how TC fits into the growing region.

“I have watched Brandon grow into a solid leader throughout the years,” McDaniel said. “Students respect him for his leadership ability, and his peers recognize his aptitude for incorporat­ing innovative ways to solve problems and get results. We are very pleased to welcome him to our TC family.”

TC’s Workforce and Community and Business Education Division specialize­s in offering training programs for students interested in obtaining technical skills to quickly enter the workforce. Workforce programs include courses in automotive technology, auto body repair, certified nursing assistant, constructi­on technology, cosmetolog­y, culinary arts, diesel technology, electrical technology, electronic­s/instrument­ation technology, EMT, fire academy, HVAC, industrial maintenanc­e, office careers, pharmacy tech, profession­al truck driving and welding.

Courses offered through the Community and Business Education division include personal-enrichment courses, such as swimming, art, computer training, health and wellness and the Kids College.
