Twins lag behind Generals

Editor’s Note: At presstime, going into the ninth frame, Victoria had left 13 on base, while the Twins stranded nine. See Wednesday’s Gazette for complete coverage. Victoria put on a hitting barrage. The Generals led the Texarkana Twins, 6-2, going into the top of the ninth inning at press time in a Texas Collegiate League baseball game at George Dobson Field Monday.

Victoria had belted out 14 hits through eight frames.

Texarkana fell behind early, 2-0, after the first inning. Victoria’s Glen McClain smacked a 2-run

single up the middle to score Darien Simms, who had singled, and Riley McKnight, who was hit by a pitch.

Axel Poesmans started off the Twins’ third with a single up the middle. Poesmans advanced to second on a wild pitch and landed on third on an error. Joseph Shepherd walked, and, a batter later, Gunner Halter hit a sacrifice fly to left center to score Poesmans.

Alex Rodriguez landed safely on first after a General’s error, and Kyle Bottger slapped a 1-run single up the middle to knot the game at 2-all going into the fourth frame.

Jack Kenley hit a 1-run double to left field in the sixth as Victoria took a 3-2 lead.

Kelvin Flores hit an RBI single to right field in the seventh as the Generals padded their lead, 4-2. Dakota Phillips scored on the play, who had singled to right and stole second base.

Victoria added two more runs in the eighth on a single to center field by Hunter Hearn.

Texarkana starter Colin Cameron scattered 10 hits, gave up three runs, struck out four and walked one.

Zach Phillips came in to pitch for the Twins in the seventh, gave up four hits, three runs, walked one, hit one and fanned one.

Starter Pedro Garcia tossed five innings, gave up two runs, struck out 10 and walked three for the Generals.

At presstime, going into the ninth frame, Victoria had left 13 on base, while the Twins stranded nine.

The Twins won Sunday’s game against the Generals, 16-5.
