More rain expected across region under weather system

- By Lori Dunn

A weather system that started in Oklahoma is credited with bringing rain and thunderstorms to Texarkana.

“It’s an early summer pattern that is mostly nocturnal. The storm started in Oklahoma and they move southeast all night until they get here,” said Meteorologist Gary Chatelain with the National Weather Service in Shreveport, La.

The rain and thunderstorms happened in Texarkana on Saturday and again early Monday. A similar system is expected again today in Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas.

“It’s not that unusual for early summer,” Chatelain said. “This should be what’s happening.”

The clouds will help keep the temperatures from being too high. Today’s high is expected to be 90 degrees and Wednesday’s high should be 88.

The area is in a neutral weather pattern and not a El Niño or La Niña, according to the NWS.

A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for Bowie County along with Cass, Red River and Titus counties in Northeast Texas and McCurtain County in Southeast Oklahoma.

Another complex of thunderstorms was expected to move into the Interstate 30 corridor Monday night, according to the NWS.

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms will also be possible this week as several disturbances move across the northern portions of the area. While the threat of a few isolated severe storms cannot be ruled out, widespread severe weather is not expected.
