Bombers rally late to beat Twins
Brazos Valley flexed its muscles again Wednesday at George Dobson Field.
The Bombers teased Texarkana before bunching six hits for four runs in the ninth to rally past the Twins, 5-3.
Texarkana (7-11) scored all of its runs in the fourth, two coming on Alex Rodriguez's third home run of the summer over the left field foul pole.
The Twins had only one hit the final five innings against Bomber relievers Collin Garrett and closer Reid Morgan.
Chase Calabuig ignited the Bombers' rally with his second double of the game with one out. He
advanced to third on Kyle O'keefe infield hit, scoring when Ryan Benadvidez hit a 1-0 offering from reliever Dustin Lacaze for a double to right-center.
Christian Boulware singled on a 1-2 pitch to put Brazos Valley (10-7) on top for the first time. Pinchhitter Thomas Jeffries singled home the final run.
Prior to the Bombers' late heroics, Texarkana had dominated the game with solid pitching from southpaw Ben Donnell and newcomer Trey Morris, who pitched for TCU last spring.
First baseman Jaxxon Grisham led the Twins at the plate with a triple and single. He was on third with nobody out in the second, but was stranded when Bomber starter Ross Bludau retired Kyle Bottger on a grounder to first, while striking out the next two.
The Twins will be on the road tonight in Victoria, where they have not won this season.
