Pageant changes date, location
2018 Miss Texarkana Twin Rivers event set for Aug. 26
The 2018 Miss Texarkana Twin Rivers Scholarship Pageant will be held at a new date and location: Saturday, Aug. 26, of this year at Pleasant Grove High School Performing Arts Center.
The switch in dates for the Miss Texarkana pageant is due to financial considerations, said the pageant organization’s executive director, Donna Berry. Typically, the pageant is held in January at the Sullivan Performing Arts Center, but now the pageant date is moved up.
“Christmas holidays and winter weather always got us,” Berry said about the typical winter date. Also, an opportunity to move to another location makes it more affordable for the organization. Berry said the scholarship organization has to consider the bottom line as they support six titleholders through the year.
“Since we are a non-profit, all of our money goes to the girls,” Berry said, noting, “It’s a fast move. We’ve never done this before.”
Current titleholders will keep their titles for the remainder of this year while new titleholders will take over with the new year. However, new titleholders will also have a chance to make appearances with current titleholders until they take over, explained Berry, if they wish.
“We don’t want to take anything away from our girls because they were phenomenal. We’ve had a dream year,” she said.
The date switch will allow for more money to be devoted to scholarships and the clothing allowance for titleholders, the director said. About the Sullivan, though, she had praise.
“Texarkana ISD has been wonderful to work with,” Berry said, calling this decision a financial one.
The theme for this year’s pageant is “Make it Happen.”
Paperwork for the pageant can be found online at MissTexarkanaTwinRivers.org. The pageant organization is accepting contestants now for all six titles awarded in the adult and teen categories. Aug. 22 is the deadline to submit paperwork. To hold a spot, email the one-page application to texarkanatwinrivers@cableone.net.
The Little Miss Pageant is still scheduled to happen on Jan. 6.
