Wadley hospital to host event honoring breastfeeding week
Wadley Regional Medical Center will host a breastfeeding celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. this evening in Wadley’s first floor education room. The event is commemorating World Breastfeeding Week.
Topics to be covered include women’s rights, proper nutrition and support groups and classes available in the area.
The event will also celebrate the oneyear anniversary of Wadley’s Breastfeeding Support Group.
A variety of local vendors will offer services for expecting and new mothers.
Each mom present will receive a children’s book, and there will be an entertainment corner with coloring for children who attend with their mothers.
Attendees will receive a ‘passport’ to be signed by vendors and will be entered in a drawing for door prizes. Refreshments will be provided.
The event is free and open to the public. For a full list of vendors, visit wadleyhealth.com/breastfeeding.
As a 10 Step hospital and Mother-Friendly Worksite, Wadley promotes and recommends breastfeeding as do many medical authorities, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Breastfed babies typically get sick less, and it saves money. There are also benefits for the mom, such as losing weight and helping to reduce the risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
