Cheers & Jeers

-

JEERS: To the Texarkana Gazette editors and staff of HER Magazine for photos regarding back to school clothing for female school-age kids, notably one scantily looking outfit worn by a young model! I fully understand there is a big difference between my “old school” perception of fashion and school kids’ ideas of attractiveness, acceptance, etc. But the look and description of classroom wardrobe (lacy bra) seems to look more like someone in a different profession rather than a student. I am certainly not indicating any wrongdoing by this young lady, but would be disappointed in any of my family or granddaughters thinking this attire is acceptable for school-age kids!—L.B. Texarkana, Ark.

CHEERS: To the Gazette for your “In Our View” on campus carry. Critics of the law predicted there would be “blood in the streets.” That concealed carriers would prevent open discussion of opinions. That hasn’t happened. Concealed carriers commit 1/6 the number of crimes per capita than policemen who, in turn, commit only 40% as many crimes as the public at large. In other words they are VERY law abiding.—M.B., Texarkana, Texas
