Eclipse Party

The Atlanta Public Library will host an eclipse party from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday with lunar hot dog links, SunChips, MoonPies, drinks and special eclipse glasses free to all.

The free lunch will be served under the trees on the west side of the library.

Here’s a list of other activities at the library:

Quilting at 10 a.m. Tuesdays.

Knitting class at 10 a.m. Fridays.

3-D printing class at 5 p.m. Thursdays.

Game night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays.

Hickory Hill Music

The local bluegrass band Hickory Hill will give its annual summer bluegrass show at 8 p.m. Saturday at Music City Texas Theater in Linden, Texas.

The band of John Early, Milo Deering, Don Eaves and Ronny Singley will be joined by Richard Bowden for the evening. The band is celebratin­g its 38th year of performing.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Music begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Weight-Loss Program

Step Up Scale Down, a 12-week educationa­l program for weight control by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Linden, Texas, will hold a weigh-in and classes starting Aug. 28, at the extension office in Linden.

Weigh-in will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the office with classes at noon and again at 5:30 p.m.

The registrati­on fee for the entire course is $20.

HealthCare Express is sponsoring the event, which is a project of the Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce.

Sing for fun or compete for the $50 prize. Comment with the chamber on Facebook for the song you wish to sing.

Water Balloon War

An early afternoon and evening of water festivity will be held Saturday in the Linden City Park.

Registrati­on begins at 3 p.m. and games start at 4 p.m. Activities include tug of war, slip and slide, childrens games and balloon battles. Concession stand and vendors booths will complete the event.

The sponsor is Linden United, an effort led by Linden police Patrol Officer Renee Murphy. Her purpose is to bring the community together with an emphasis upon youth and having fun.

Rodeo

Cass County ’s Championsh­ip Rodeo produced by the Wing Rodeo Company of Bogata, Texas, will begin at 8 p.m. nightly at the Linden Arena Aug. 25-26.

The rodeo is a project of the Linden Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n to benefit Cass County Relay for Life. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12. Children under 5 are free.

Sock Hop

Seniors in Atlanta are invited to a Summer Senior Sock Hop 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the American Legions Hall.

Both admission and refreshmen­ts are free, said organizer John Fox, but a free will donation for support of the Boys and Girls State program will be encouraged.

Legionnair­e Mike Lee will provide music of the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s.
