REBECCA SHINN
Rebecca Jane Shinn passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 in Texarkana, Texas. Becky was born June 30, 1947 in Magnolia, Arkansas to Mary Sue (DeLaughter) and Gresham Shinn. She graduated from Magnolia High School and Southern Arkansas University.
Born the third of five children, Becky is survived by sister’s Sarah Shinn Newton and husband Wayne of Highland Village, Texas and Linda Shinn Grace and husband Happy of Texarkana, Arkansas and brother Jay Shinn of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by five nieces and nephews and twelve great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister Bobo Shinn.
Becky began her career after graduation from SAU as a fashion buyer with Selber’s Department Store in Shreveport, Louisiana. She soon took a position as Ladies Wear Buyer for Gus Mayer Department Stores headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana overseeing twelve stores. She was next hired by Davidson’s Department Stores in Atlanta, Georgia, a division of Macy’s, as the head Junior Sportswear Buyer for the company’s twenty-seven stores across the southern United States.
In 1976, Ms. Shinn developed and operated the Best Western Hotel in Ruston, Louisiana. During this time, she served on many Lodging and Hospitality Councils.
Becky was also a partner in her family’s hotel interests with properties in Houston and the Dallas area.
Ms. Shinn retired recently and moved to Texarkana, Arkansas where she has been an active supporter and benefactor of the Animal Care and Adoption Center of Texarkana.
Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM at Central Baptist Church Chapel with Bro. Steve Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. in Magnolia.
