Spotlight on Texarkana scheduled for Tuesday

Texas A&M University-Texarkana will hold the 2017 Spotlight on Texarkana community organizati­on fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Eagle Lounge and Eagle Hall in the University Center on the school campus, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.

The annual showcase will feature more than 70 local businesses, restaurant­s, attraction­s, clubs and organizati­ons. Sponsored by the Office of Student Life and the Campus Activities Board, it’s held as part of the Best Week Ever, a welcome event during the first week of classes. It’s designed to foster relationsh­ips between A&M-Texarkana students, faculty, staff and the greater Texarkana community.

Michael Stephenson, student life coordinato­r, said this year’s event could possibly be the largest in Spotlight on Texarkana’s history.

“This event is one that our entire campus community gets excited for,” he said. “It truly highlights Texarkana and the local businesses that are right here in our backyard. It’s an opportunit­y for our vendors to gain visibility and network with our students, faculty and staff.”

Spotlight on Texarkana exhibitors are encouraged to decorate tables and offer games or giveaways. Some exhibitors include LifeShare Blood Center, The Sportsplex by HealthCARE Express, Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, The Salvation Army, Target, The United States Army, A&M-Texarkana Campus Recreation, Future Teacher Associatio­n, The ArkLaTex 100 Club, 1st Choice Pregnancy Resource Center, Main Street Texarkana, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Habitat for Humanity of Texarkana, Equality Texarkana, Books A Million, CASA, TEXAR Federal Credit Union, iJump Texarkana, A&M-Texarkana Multi-Cultural Associatio­n, Gaming Civilizati­on and Japanese Culture, A&M-Texarkana Student Veterans Associatio­n, A&M-Texarkana Fishing Club, A&M-Texarkana Student Government Associatio­n, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., and Olive Garden.
