Arkansas State Police looking to recruit 35 candidates for academy

Vacancies to be filled in Southwest Arkansas include Nevada, Lafayette, Pike counties

Arkansas State Police are looking for candidates who are interested in enrolling in the 2018 academy class.

Vacancies to be filled in Southwest Arkansas include Nevada, Lafayette and Pike counties. A total of 35 recruits will be selected to enter the academy early next year.

“Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the Arkansas State Police website at asp.arkansas.gov and watch the recruiting video that offers a view into the world of a state trooper. The recruiting page also provides applicants a means to directly contact a recruiter,” said Col. Bill Bryant, Arkansas State Police director.

Some minimum qualificat­ions:

Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age.

Must possess a medical release to participat­e in a physical fitness test.

Must possess a current and valid driver license.

Must be a certified high school graduate or possess a GED.

Must meet visual acuity requiremen­ts.

Never convicted of a felony criminal charge.

Never convicted of a misdemeano­r domestic violence charge.

Pass a comprehens­ive background check, and have no tattoos that are visible on an applicant’s body that could be seen if wearing the uniform of an Arkansas state trooper.

Recruits begin earning a salary after being offered a position and reporting to the academy.

Benefits include health insurance, retirement contributi­ons, furnished uniform and equipment, and opportunit­ies for overtime duty.
