DeKalb loses trio at tournament

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas—DeKalb lost a trio of pool play matches during the opening day of the Paul Pewitt volleyball tournament Thursday.

The Lady Bears fell to Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, Pittsburg and Mount Vernon.

In the 25-16, 25-20 loss to Mount Vernon, Hope Murphy served five points, and Kassidy Barrett had four kills.

Against Pittsburg, Kynli Holder had three kills, and Carrie Almond served three winners in a 25-10, 25-17 loss.

Evette Martinez served eight points, and Bailey Blackstone had four kills in a 25-23, 25-18 loss to Chapel Hill.

DeKalb, which plays in the bracket play Saturday, hosts Avery in a regular season match today, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Daingerfie­ld splits

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas— Daingerfie­ld topped Detroit but lost to Redwater in the Hughes Springs volleyball tournament.

During a 25-16, 20-25, 15-12 win over Detroit, Ellixandri­a Walker had four kills and three blocks, Destiny Hurndon added three kills and five digs, Kiara Robinson had three kills and four blocks, Trinity Blythe contribute­d 15 digs, Denebria Hall 10 digs, and Treshawnti Howard had 10 assists.

In a 25-20, 25-14 loss to the Lady Dragons, Robinson had five blocks and five kills, Blythe added 10 digs, and Howard had 10 assists.

The Lady Tigers will play Saturday in bracket play.

Subvarsity Lady Pirates fall to SB

SIMMS, Texas—Sulphur Bluff won a pair of junior high matches over host James Bowie.

The Lady Bear 8th grade team won, 25-21, 25-13. Malorie Eastburn had nine points for the Lady Pirates.

In the 7th grade match, Sulphur Bluff won, 25-8, 25-15. Sarah Sellers had two points for JB.

Tennis AHS drops home match

Arkansas High fell to Benton, 12-3, at home.

Amy Claire Mugno and Reese Chesshir continued their winning streak in doubles, and the Hogs' boys doubles team of Matthew Mobley and Patrick Cook also got a victory. Chesshir also won her singles match.

The Razorbacks host Hope and Nashville Monday.

Tiger junior varsity wins

HALLSVILLE, Texas—Texas High's junior varsity team won its fall team tennis opener over host Hallsville, 22-4.

The Tigers swept four boys doubles matches, four girls doubles matches, took 8 of 9 boys singles competitio­ns, and 6 of 9 girls singles matches.

The junior varsity's next match will be at home against Hallsville.
