Host Lady Brahmas unbeaten Day 1

Arkansas High girls 2-1 in match play

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas—Arkansas High went 2-1 in match play during first day of the Paul Pewitt volleyball tournament Friday.

The host team Lady Brahmas went 3-0, as did Pittsburg. Mount Vernon was 2-1, Chapel Hill and James Bowie went 1-2 each, while DeKalb and Union Hill were each 0-3.

Jasmine Simmons slapped in 12 service points and made seven digs to lead the Lady Backs to a 25-14, 25-6 win over Union Hill.

Brooklyn Brewer served in eight points and had nine kills, Kaitlyn Fortenberr­y served in nine points, and Makenna Ivey put down four kills and made four digs.

Brewer served in 11 points as Arkansas High swept James Bowie, 25-12, 25-18. Sydnee Blackwell had five kills, Kailey Burns made 10 digs as did teammate Ivey. Jasmine Benson served in eight winners and made eight assists.

Ebbony Cobbins had 11 service points and seven kills as Paul Pewitt defeated Arkansas High, 25-20, 25-16.

Kenzie Traylor served in 10 points and made 15 assists, while teammate Brelee Lawings put down 15 kills for the Brahmas.

Ivey paced the Lady Backs with six points, five kills and five digs, while teammate Brewer served in six points.

Calli Osmon paced Pewitt with 11 service points, and the Brahmas rolled past James Bowie, 25-7, 25-17. Traylor made 13 assists, and teammate Lawing had nine kills.

Jacie Crocker slapped in seven service points as Pewitt routed Union Hill, 25-14, 25-12. Cobbins had five kills, and teammate Traylor had 10 assists.

In Thursday’s pool play, Mount Vernon beat DeKalb, 25-16, 25-20, Pittsburg defeated Chapel Hill, 25-18, 25-20, and Pittsburg beat DeKalb, 25-10, 25-17. Mount Vernon defeated Chapel Hill, 25-15, 25-18, Chapel Hill beat DeKalb, 25-23, 25-18, and Pittsburg got past Mount Vernon, 24-26, 25-22, 25-20.

Mount Vernon plays James Bowie today at 8:30 a.m., Paul Pewitt takes on DeKalb at 9:30, Arkansas High faces Chapel Hill at 10:30, and Pittsburg plays Union Hill at 11:30.
