Lady Tigers claim 3 wins in Spikefest tournament

LITTLE ROCK—Texas High went 3-1-1 Saturday in the Mount St. Mary’s Spikefest tournament.

The Lady Tigers notched wins over Greenbrier and Central Arkansas Christian in pool play, split with Bryant, and then beat Little Rock Central and fell to Van Buren.

Against Central, Kaitlyn Cross had six kills and eight points during a 25-16, 25-4 sweep. Vicki Willis added 14 points and six digs.

In the 25-21, 25-18 loss to Van Buren, Treyaunna Rush swatted 12 kills, had eight assists, six digs and seven points. Olivia Lower added seven kills, eight digs and seven points.

During a 25-21, 25-17 win over CAC, Lower had seven kills and nine points, and Willis 10 digs and seven points.

Rush led the way against Bryant, which won the second set, 25-23, after Texas High won the first, 25-19. Rush had 11 kills and eight assists, and Mia Wilson served 12 points.

Rush had nine kills, nine assists and 11 points in the 25-14, 25-18 sweep of Greenbrier.

Lions play into higher bracket

TYLER, Texas—New Boston’s varsity volleyball team earned a spot in the championsh­ip bracket Saturday.

“I know that us advancing into the championsh­ip bracket hasn’t been done within the last five years,” Lady Lions’ head coach Haylee Houston said. “I am extremely proud of how much we have grown and unified as a team.”

McKenzee Thomas put down eight kills, and teammate Kirsten Stuard had six service points, but New Boston lost to Pleasant Grove, 25-15, 25-18, Saturday.

Grace Duffer made 12 assists, Morgan McAlexande­r had six kills, Aariana Johnson made three blocks, and Hannah Ratcliff had 13 digs for the Lions.

Carleigh Reeves had five kills, but New Boston was defeated by Hallsville, 25-23, 25-16, Saturday. Thomas served in five winners, McAlexande­r and Johnson each had five blocks, Duffer made 18 assists, and Ratcliff had 25 digs.

Ratcliff served in 17 points and made 19 digs on Friday as New Boston defeated Harmony, 25-13, 25-14. McAlexande­r had four blocks, Thomas put down seven kills, and Duffer helped out with 11 assists.

McAlexande­r slapped in 12 service points to lead the Lions over Jefferson, 25-10, 25-11, Friday. Ratcliff had 11 service points to go with 18 digs, Johnson made nine kills, and Duffer had 13 assists for New Boston.

The Lions got nine service points from Thomas and defeated John Tyler, 25-19, 25-21, Friday. Reeves put down seven kills, Ratcliff made 21 digs, Duffer had 15 assists, and Johnson made four blocks.

New Boston plays at 4:30 p.m. today at Avery.
