Liberty-Eylau earns second seed at Been There, Dug That volleyball tournament

HOOKS, Texas—Liberty-Eylau earned the second seed in pool B at the Been There, Dug That volleyball tournament Thursday.

Kyana Norman had nine service points as the Lady Leopards defeated Paul Pewitt, 25-20, 28-26. Calli Osmon had seven service points for the Lady Brahmas.

Kaliyah Thompson slapped in 13 winners as Liberty-Eylau defeated Mount Pleasant's junior varsity, 25-14, 25-6.

Derrica Henderson served in three points, but the Leopards fell to Rivercrest, 25-20, 25-17.

Lydia Makowicki had five service points for Paul Pewitt, but the Brahmas lost to Rivercrest, 25-23, 25-17.

Brelee Lawings slapped in 13 points to lead Pewitt to a 25-18, 25-14 victory over Mount Pleasant's junior varsity.

Rivercrest rolled past Mount Pleasant's jayvee, 25-7, 25-14.

Atlanta earned the second seed out of Pool A play. Alicia Garcia had seven service points to lead the Lady Rabbits over LindenKild­are, 25-19, 25-20.

Makayla Martin had a team-high four service points for LindenKild­are.

Atlanta outlasted Colombia Christian, 21-25, 25-15, 25-11, as Mallory McClure served in 15 winners for the Lady Rabbs.

Daniela Arrendondo had three service points, but Atlanta was routed by Pittsburg, 25-5, 25-12.

Martin had a game-high 12 service points to lead Linden-Kildare to a 25-14, 25-9 win over Colombia Christian. Sierra Johnson had eight service points, but the Lady Tigers fell to Pittsburg, 25-5, 25-12.

In the other match, Pittsburg won its first match of the day with a 25-15, 25-14 win over Colombia Christian.

The Lady Pirates are the No. 1 seed out of pool A, Atlanta second, Linden-Kildare third, and Colombia Christian fourth.

Rivercrest is the first seed out of pool B, followed by Liberty-Eylau, Paul Pewitt, and Mount Pleasant's JV in fourth.

Daingerfie­ld, Arkansas High, Jefferson, and Queen City begin play in pool C, while Hooks, Maud, Clarksvill­e and El Dorado start play in pool D today at 10 a.m.

SUBVARSITY FOOTBALL

DEKALB, Texas—De Kalb's junior varsity football squad defeated Prairiland at home, 16-12.

A.J. Burgin threw a 5-yard pass t Ramaj Vaughn for the game's first score. Burgin connected with Dylan Hanna for the 2-point conversion.

Burgin connected with Hannah on a 45-yard pass for the next touchdown, followed by Ty Olson's 2-point conversion run.

De Kalb will host New Boston Thursday.

REDWATER WINS

REDWATER, Texas—Redwater defeated Elysian Fields in the junior varsity contest, 22-16.

Logan Johnson scored the contest's first touchdown on a 50-yard run, followed by a Preston Davis 2-point conversion run.

Davis scored on a 1-yard TD run, and Johnson scored on a 2-point conversion run.

Rolan Smith scored on a 81-yard intercepti­on.

Bavon Smith scored on a 50-yard run in the “B” game and also had a intercepti­on.

Kaden McGaha also had a intercepti­on for a touchdown for the Dragons.

Redwater will host Hooks on Thursday.

LIONS SHUT OUT HORNETS

NEW BOSTON, Texas—Matt Dunn returned a punt 70 yards for a score and added a 9-yard touchdown run as New Boston defeated Hooks, 20-0.

Josh Packard threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Rawls for the first score of the game.

Julian Taylor tackled a Hornet player in the end zone for a safety, while Tyrone Hunter and Angel Recendiz each made one fumble recovery for the Lions.

PG WINS

Pleasant Grove defeated Arkansas High in the junior varsity game, 12-8, at Hawk Stadium.

Grayson Taylor connected on a 42-yard pass to Sergio Rodriguez to get the Hawks on the board first.

Javian Daniels returned a fumble for a touchdown for Pleasant Grove.

VOLLEYBALL HAWKS SWEEP PIRATES

Harleigh O'Neal served in 10 points as Pleasant Grove's 8th A team defeated Pittsburg, 25-12, 25-18.

Ashlyn Foster paced the Lady Hawks with 12 service winners, and Pleasant Grove won the 8th B match, 25-5, 25-12.

Rose Anderson slapped in 18 service points to lead the Lady Hawks to a 25-6, 25-7 rout of the Lady Pirates in the 7th A team match.

Winter Crouch served in 20 points for Pleasant Grove's 7th B team as they defeated Pittsburg, 25-14, 25-11. Twin sister Autumn Crouch helped out with 12 service points.

HORNETS JH WINS 2

HOOKS, Texas—Lindra Burchette had a game-high 15 service points as Hooks' 8th grade defeated Daingerfie­ld, 25-11, 25-21.

Makayla Duhon helped out with 11 points for the Lady Hornets.

Alee Jefferson served in nine points as Hooks' 7th grade beat Daingerfie­ld, 25-18, 25-17. Kylah Haley paced the Lady Tigers with six points.

BRAHMAS, BULLDOGS SPLIT

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas— Aubrey Neuman slapped in 22 points as Paul Pewitt's 8th A team defeated Queen City, 25-19, 25-9.

Jade Whitehorn led the Lady Bulldogs with five points.

Queen City swept the 8th B match, 25-7, 23-11.

Landri Beckham paced Queen City with 13 service winners as the Bulldogs' 7th A outlasted the Brahmas, 9-25, 25-21, 25-15.

Makayla Jackson led all servers with 21 points for Pewitt.

Hally Taylor and Emily Gavel each served in nine points and the Brahmas won the 7th B match, 25-23, 13-11.

TMS DEFEATS NORTH HEIGHTS

Texas Middle School's 8th grade defeated North Heights in two sets at the Tiger Center.

Jamiya Montgomery had five points for the Lady Backs.

Ashlyn Bratton slapped in five service points for North Heights' 7th grade, but the Lady Tigers won the 7th grade match.

The two teams will rematch at North Heights junior high Thursday.

TENNIS

Texas High's junior varsity tennis team defeated Hallsville 23-3.

The Tigers will face Longview on Sept. 14.
