Hope Bobcats at Nashville Scrappers

- By Earl Gill

NASHVILLE, Ark.—A storied rivalry will be renewed at Scrapper Stadium between the Hope Bobcats and Nashville Scrappers tonight.

Nashville defeated Hope by 47 points a year ago and also have won the past 10 out of 11 meetings with the Bobcats.

“This is a big game for our program and to kick-start the season,” Hope head football coach Jay Turley said.

The Bobcats return senior T.D. Walton who will make the shift from receiver to quarterback.

Hope also returns senior wide receivers Nate Carter and Jaylon Conway.

“It's always a big game and it's a game that goes back a long time,” Nashville head football coach Mike Volarvich said.

Nashville returns seven seniors including Tyler Hanson at quarterback and Trent Harris at tailback.

Hanson finished 2016 with 2,551 passing yards and Harris rushed for 928 yards and 11 touchdowns in seven games.

“This is like a whole different team for us,” Turley said. “Our kids have come out and worked hard for us.”

With 30 miles separating both schools, there is a familiarity with both programs.

“Anytime Hope and Nashville get together there's a lot of excitement, especially with the proximity of both schools,” Volarvich said.

“Whenever you have a game with such a storied rivalry and two communities that are traditionally rich as they are, you never know what will happen between the lines.”
