Yellowjack­ets too much for Dragons

ELYSIAN FIELDS, Texas—Christavia­n Smith rushed for a pair of touchdowns, Elysian Fields built a 28-7 halftime lead and the Yellowjack­ets cruised to a 36-14 win over Redwater on Friday.

Smith got the scoring started with a 20-yard run at the 6:17 mark of the first quarter, tacking on the two-pointer for an 8-0 Elysian Fields lead.

Cole Meyers extended the Yellowjack­et lead three minutes later when he housed a fumble recovery from 45 yards out.

Redwater got on the board just before the half on a 40-yard touchdown pass, but Elysian Fields came out of the break and the defense set up another score with a fumble recovery.

Nate Johnson did the scoring honors on a 19-yard run, and two minutes later Redwater fumbled it away again. this time Cole Meyers hauled in a 40-yard TD pass from Garrett McIntosh and EF led 28-7.

Seth Lanthrop scored on a 7-yard run for Redwater to keep it close, but the Yellowjack­ets put it away with a 20-yard TD strike from McIntosh to Meyers.

Redwater travels to Hooks next week.

Linden-Kildare 35, Harleton 26

LINDEN, Texas—LaDabian Johnson rushed for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns to propel Linden-Kildare over Harleton.

Hunter Wallace led the Wildcats with 166 yards on the ground and a pair of TDs.

Jakevian Rose scored on a 1-yard run for the Tigers in the first quarter. Linden-Kildare built a 28-14 lead at halftime.

Rose grabbed a 95-yard pass from Marty Johnson in the second quarter, and Johnson punched in the 2-point conversion, his second of the first half, for the Tigers' last score of the first half.

Johnson put the game out of reach on a 7-yard touchdown run with 2:02 left in the game.

DeKalb 30, Prairiland 20

PRAIRILAND, Texas—DeKalb's 16-point second quarter proved to be the difference-maker in its season-opening victory over Prairiland.

Bears running back Jaquan Jackson stole the spotlight, rushing 17 times for 245 yards, including 69- and 59-yard runs for touchdowns during the first quarter. He also caught three catches for 55 yards.

Quarterbac­k Tristen Jamison threw two touchdown passes for DeKalb, hitting JeMichael Wherry in the second quarter and DJ Gray in the fourth. Jamison finished the game on 9 of 16 passing for 137 yards.

DeKalb's Daniel Espinoza nailed a 39-yard field goal with no time remaining in the second quarter that increased the Bears' lead to 23-13 at halftime.

The Bears will travel to New Boston next week.
