Open house to give glimpse of Catholic life

-

A beautiful downtown structure comprised of exquisite architecture and stained glass will open its doors to the public, giving everyone a peek at the beauty and mystery that lies inside.

Historic St. Edward Catholic Church, 407 Beech St., Texarkana, Ark., will hold the tour at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Rev. James West, who has been in the parish since February, said he has held the tours at other parishes he’s served. He said the tour is designed to help Catholics understand their heritage.

“It’s for informational purposes to help our Catholics to understand what they are surrounded by all the time. People see pictures and things all the time but they may not even think about the stories,” he said. “For a Catholic, we have all kinds of things that impact our faith. This helps them appreciate more and more what is around them.”

West also said non-Catholics will enjoy the tour.

“It’s also for those who want to see the inside of the church but never had reason to go in and see it,” he said. “They may be curious. It’s open for anyone who might have a desire to see it.”
