Kids for the Cure race next month
Kids for the Cure is an important part of Race for the Cure Texarkana, scheduled to take place Oct. 21 at the Four States Fairgrounds. Kids for the Cure is open to kids up to 12 years of age. Registration is $20 and includes entry into Race for the Cure and the Kids Glow Run at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Pleasant Grove Middle School Track.
“It will take place that afternoon into evening,” said Ashley Loftin, Kids for the Cure co-chair. “At dusk kids will put on their glow gear and race around the track. There will be glow gear available at the race. There will also be bounce houses and other activities for kids to participate in leading up to the race.”
Participants in Kids for the Cure will receive a T-shirt designed by Diego Bustamante, who was recently announced at the Kids for the Cure T-shirt design contest winner.
Diego is a sixth-grader at Red Lick Middle School. His entry was chosen out of 400 entries from six school districts.
“I'm very surprised,” Diego said after he was announced the winner. “I didn't think I'd ever win this in a million years.”
The T-shirt design contest gets children interested in learning more about breast cancer and Komen's mission to find a cure and also gets them interested in participating in Race for the Cure.
“It brings awareness to kids to get them involved,” Loftin said.
Diego was a T-shirt with his design on it, a $50 gift card to Target and a goodie bag from Komen Texarkana. His design will be printed on approximately 500 T-shirts for kids who participate in Race for the Cure.
Register for Kids for the Cure at komenarkansas.org.
“Make sure you select the Texarkana Race for the Cure,” Loftin said.
Registration forms are also available at different businesses around Texarkana.
