Capt. Rosbach returns with new crew members

- By Lindsay Scharf

On ‘Deck’: Fans of nautical reality TV can rejoice as “Below Deck” returns for a fifth season, premiering Tuesday, Sept. 5, on Bravo. This juicy program gives viewers an inside look at exclusive parties and cruises that take place on a $12-million yacht. Follow the crew as they provide world-class service to their wealthy guests, learn to do their jobs (most of this season’s staff consists of new hires) and interact with one another in some very entertaining ways — veteran watchers know to expect lots of flirting, dating, cat fights, rivalries and more.

Unfortunately, fan favorite Ben Robinson, the vessel’s chef, is not returning this season, but Kate Chastain is back as “chief stew” (short for stewardess), and Nico Scholly makes an effort to prove himself as the senior deckhand. Matthew Burns steps into the chef’s shoes, Briana Adekeye and Jennifer Howell are the stewardesses, and the new deckhands are Chris Brown, Bruno Duarte and Baker Manning. This season, Kate has her hands full guiding and instructing two new stews at the same time. Meanwhile, Nico has to learn to balance his new position with family matters back home.

Capt. Lee Rosbach faces some troubles related to inexperienced crew members this season, too. When Nico meets the new stew, Brianna, he realizes they have dated in the past, and that he’s still got a thing for her — unfortunately, Matt and Chris also vie for her attention, and she becomes stuck in the middle of a love quadrangle. When the Valor (that’s the ship’s name) gets into an accident, Capt. Rosbach must reassign duties to ensure it doesn’t happen again. This season is set to be an emotional rollercoaster, full of hookups and drama. Season 5 of “Below Deck” premieres Tuesday, Sept. 5, on Bravo.

One happy family: This heartwarming television show is perfect for viewers who like the idea of reality TV, but dislike drama. Why? Because “Eric & Jessie: Game On, “which follows married couple Eric Decker and Jessie James Decker as they try to balance their careers, Jessie’s business and their growing family, relies not on shock value or scandal, but on heartwarming moments and perseverance. Season 3 of the series premieres Wednesday, Sept. 6, on E!

Jessie is a moderately successful country/pop singer, and Eric is a professional football player, and their lives have changed a lot since we last saw them. As season 2 ended, Jessie had just given birth to their first child, Vivianne Rose. After their daughter was born in 2014, the couple decided to take a break from the cameras in order to focus on their family and enjoy their privacy. In fact, Jessie had her doubts about whether they’d film another season at all — she was uncomfortable with having the cameras around her children, and was worried that it would affect them negatively. Luckily for her fans, she’s changed her mind since then. In 2015, their son Eric Thomas II was born, so now the young couple has two children under the age of 4, plus they both have successful careers. On top of it all, Jessie is working hard at getting her new business off the ground — that’s a lot to juggle!

This season, Eric suddenly changes teams when he’s signed by the Tennessee Titans. Until this year, Eric played for the New York Jets, but, in 2016, he was sidelined due to an injury. So, when the Tennessee Titans asked him to play, the couple decided to move their young family to Nashville.

The couple represents a return to good old-fashioned family values in a medium where values are severely lacking. They are always polite to each other, and they share their love and respect with one another and their children. “Eric & Jessie: Game On” is the opposite of shows like “The Real Housewives” — there are no screaming matches, no big fights, no backstabbing. It’s just calming and relaxing, and it’s interesting to see how this lovely couple lives their lives.

Season 3 of “Eric & Jessie: Game On” premieres Wednesday, Sept. 6, on Bravo.

Sunken treasure: Do you like pirate stories filled with treasure, mutiny and beautiful destinations? Then this one’s for you! A new episode of “Caribbean Pirate Treasure” airs Sunday, Sept. 3, on Travel Channel. In this documentary-style reality TV series, Philippe Cousteau (grandson of the legendary Jacques Cousteau) and his wife, Ashlan, visit gorgeous places such as Antigua, Dominican Republic and Belize to uncover the truth about local treasure legends and find sunken ships and their coveted bounty.

Ashlan Gorse Cousteau is an American entertainment journalist with expertise in the field of celebrity gossip, who is now combining her knack for spinning a story with Philippe’s love of the sea. The combination makes for an intriguing show.

The couple visits all kinds of locations to meet with locals and treasurehunting experts. Ashlan says that their search isn’t just about the payoff — for her, it’s about giving a voice to these compelling stories and uncovering the world’s mysteries. Many of the places they visit aren’t far off the beaten path, and are often quite close to popular tourist destinations. Tune in Sunday, Sept. 3, to catch a new episode of “Caribbean Pirate Treasure.”
